Climate: EPA eyes limits on airline carbon pollution
Summit County Citizens Voice (CO) ^ | September 8, 2014 | By Bob Berwyn

U.S. airlines may soon be required to at least start thinking about cutting their carbon footprint.

The EPA last week started a rule-making process aimed at determining whether fast-growing carbon emissions from American aircraft endanger public health and welfare.

The EPA action came a month after the Center for Biological Diversity and Friends of the Earth, which is represented by Earthjustice, threatened to sue the agency for failing to reduce greenhouse gas pollution from aircraft.

Conservation advocates say airlines could easily make big cuts in emissions, for example by upgrading fleets with fuel-efficient planes.

Know what endangers public health and welfare? The regulatory flatulence being emitted by the intellectual cowpies at The EPA.

Looks like someone well-educated,working at the EPA(assuming they exist)would realize that CO2 is not a problem. If someone with a high school education can understand this, they at the EPA should be able to......OH,I forgot,it’s their agenda.

Somebody needs to reign in the EPA. I realize that your importance in Washington depends upon the size of your agency and the number of people you direct, but the EPA is getting to the point where it is driving people into unemployment for very little margin benefit. Indeed, I have yet to see a cost/benefit study from the EPA for any of its rules and regulations. Congress has abdicated its responsibilities and is letting agencies create laws and regulations. Given that Congressmen aren’t doing their jobs, perhaps it’s time to fire the lot of them.

Exactly. They don't want to save humanity. They want to control it.

Bunch of tyrants.

the EPA, friends of the earth, etc...have to be riened in NOW...a federal agency of any kind should not have that kind of power, we have a congress to make stupid decisions and we don’t need an unelected bunch of tree huggers establishing ANYTHING.

A full airliner has reasonable fuel per passenger mile (better the farther the distance). Considering the pricing of bus, train and plane travel has a large fuel component, most airline routes are competitive with trains although not with buses like the China town buses driven by unqualified drivers.

Amen. Nowhere in The Constitution does it give unelected bureacRATS the authority to impose penalties or enact legislation.

If only there were a few Republicans with the balls to point that out.

Unfortunately, right now the only Republicans with testes are women.

Kill the EPA. Drive a stake through it’s heart.

Then: Department of Education.

So government policy and enforcement is now determined by threat of legal action. Who do I sue to lower my taxes?

Liberals love Europe’s high-speed cross-continental trains.
It won’t happen here for human transport unless and until they essentially ban planes for the rest of us.

Let the EPA lead the way by walking everywhere they have to go on official business and personal travel. And if they want to visit Hawaii, after they walk from DC to San Francisco, they put on their swimming trunks and swim there. That way the only pollution will be their breathing and their bodies at the bottom of the ocean or as shark food.

OK, CARBON is not emitted, rather, CARBON DIOXIDE is emitted, a trace gas necessary for life on earth and certainly not a “pollutant”.
