Nothing lasts forever, not even a $100 Never Ending Pasta Pass from Olive Garden. But that price will buy you all the pasta, salad, bread and soda you can stuff in your gullet for seven weeks from the chain eatery with its new gimmick.
Despite the name, the never endingness of the deal is limited to seven weeks for whoever holds it.
And theres another really super big catch, besides the one that promises pasta forever only 1,000 of the pasta passes will be sold, reports USA Today, starting today at 3 p.m. ET on the Olive Garden web site. The passes are a piggyback PR stunt that goes along with Olive Gardens Never Ending Pasta Bowl event this month.
What were trying to do is get some attention, says Jay Spenchian, executive vice president of marketing. Its sure to provoke a reaction.
If youre dreaming of bringing all your friends out to eat on the pass, you might get a stern glance or two but no ones going to smack that fork out of your buddys hand.
Of course, if someone shares we do understand were not policing the tables, Spenchian explains, and doggie bags are fine as well.
They were caught up in the big switch to part time scandal last year or the year before. So who knows what side they’re on. But the food kind of blows anyway.
One of the few I Tivo'd back then.
Used to watch it Sunday morning before church.
Musing about it later while the pastor was speaking would make me smile at inappropriate times.
Hope this doesn't turn out like Red lobster when they sold unlimited crabs. The person who came up with that idea got fired.
There is-the only thing that actually is beneficial “food” is the salad, unless you are in training to be a sumo wrestler...
I’d love to go. But my wife says we can’t go to the local Olive Garden out of embarrassment. I left a message the last time I was there that said, “olives grow in groves, not gardens. Hope this helps.”
Big difference-it costs practically nothing to hand out unlimited starchy carbs and wilted lettuce-crabs actually cost money and are food...
I'd rather feed it to a pig and then eat the pig.
It’s overpriced by 100%.
I love good pasta, but it’s not terribly healthy.
Beef man Beef!
OK...I don’t eat out. When did tips go to 20%?
Sea scallops on a bed of risotto. Heaven.
I’m not sure. Ten years ago? It varies, depending on service.
Like a gym membership in reverse.
They should pay you to eat their fake Italian food.
In a way it’s much like a gym membership. You go all the time at first. After awhile you stop going. I imagine after eating a bunch of pasta meals that in about two weeks you can barely stand the sight of it. That leaves the five remaining weeks as profit. Just like a gym.
Isn’t there something wrong with gluttony?
Yup.
Am I the only hick around here who actually likes to eat at Olive Garden. My family and I consider it a step up from Texas Roadhouse. It’s cultural too.
