Russian Strategic Bombers Near Canada Practice Cruise Missile Strikes on US

Two Russian strategic bombers conducted practice cruise missile attacks on the United States during a training mission last week that defense officials say appeared timed to the NATO summit in Wales.

The Russian Tu-95 Bear bombers were tracked flying a route across the northern Atlantic near Iceland, Greenland, and Canada’s northeast.

Analysis of the flight indicated the aircraft were conducting practice runs to a pre-determined “launch box”—an optimum point for firing nuclear-armed cruise missiles at U.S. targets, said defense officials familiar with intelligence reports.

Disclosure of the nuclear bombing practice comes as a Russian general last week called for Moscow to change its doctrine to include preemptive nuclear strikes on the United States and NATO.

Gen. Yuri Yakubov, a senior Defense Ministry official, was quoted by the state-run Interfax news agency as saying that Russia’s 2010 military doctrine should be revised to identify the United States and the NATO alliance as enemies, and clearly outline the conditions for a preemptive nuclear strike against them.

And Putin, having already peed on Obama leg, takes a leak on his face.

Should have ringed them with fighters and directed to land at an assigned place or be shot.

Then sent the crews back to Russia flying coach, minus their birds.

Big deal, whoo cares, this is what is really important:

Sports, porn, cops and robber series on tv, now that is what is really important. Who cares about the threat of nuclear war,. < /sarcasm>

Now that is really funny, considering todays Military command and commander in chief.

When your force planes in international airspace to land, it is called piracy. There are rules to this game.

However:

In June, Russian bombers flew over the arctic prompting intercepts by Canadian fighters on two occasions. The Canadian government called the stepped up bomber flights a “strategic message” from Moscow amid heightened tensions.

Vlad practices a cruse missile attack, Berry practices his golf swing.

The Russian behavior is really nothing new, I was on Elmendorf in the mid ‘80’s and we would have to scramble F-15’s to escort the bears back several times a year. Seems they get lost allot.

Nobody should be allowed to play games like this against the US, international airspace or not.

Cam anyone imagine Zero responding to a serious case of military aggression against the U.S. by initiating retalitatory actions or a strong military response? Seriously, I just can’t imagine any such a scenario. He is reluctant, indecisive and even contemptuous of U.S. might. The only thing he would do would be to launch his usual blame game with a barrage of empty words and threats.

I wonder why things have escalated to this level? Because of Ukraine?

I understand what you’re saying and that is correct but...that should never be assumed. A routine call lull people into complacency. Just saying.

Not for everyone, just the low information voter.

I have my priorities and can still watch sports and still be wary about the idiot we have in the WH and the damage he is doing.

Putin back in power, Russian oil, Ukraine, desire to reconstitute the Soviet empire, and perhaps most important of all, pathetically weak leadership in the U.S. and Europe.

I remember when Obama leaned over to Putin and whispered in his ear and made promises that it would be easier when he is reelected. I wonder if Obama is feeling a little used right now.

Under what authority would we do what you propose? Have they declared war on us?

“Google Earth analysis reveals that a Tu-95 launch box located in the Labrador Sea and firing AS-15 missiles would be in range of Ottawa, New York, Washington, and Chicago, and could reach as far south as the Norfolk Naval base.

However, air-launched cruise missiles fired from that location and outside the air defense identification zone would be unable to reach Kings Bay, Georgia—the homeport for U.S. ballistic missile submarines and a key strategic nuclear target.”

Wow that is reassuring....only a dope would make this comment as if one believes that an all out nuclear attack would just include these ancient planes launching cruise missiles from Labrador. Did the commies run out of subs and strategic missiles? I don't think so. Kings Bay and south through Jacksonville would be foot printed with many vehicles IMO. Since I live between both, I am a tad concerned about degrading our nuclear deterrent under Obola.

Under what authority did the US track, and sometimes sink, German U-boats in the same area even before the US was formally involved in WW2?

If this is the kind of crap Russia wants to pull, they should be prepared to accept a forceful reaction.

You’re right, bammy wouldn’t respond even if the bombers had violated US airspace. Sure, bammy would make some noise, maybe send a strongly worded letter to Putin - probably along with a nice greeting card. Maybe what would really upset bammy would be if one of these incidents interrupted his golf game. Maybe then he’d start acting like a leader. Nah. Besides, I think I’d rather he just finish out his term on the links and leave the US the {expletive} alone. Less likely to do any more damage that way. I’ll take the damage done by an absentee CIC over bammy’s active anti-US stance any day.

So only the USA can fly bombers around other countries?
