White House reportedly planning years-long campaign to destroy ISIS

Published September 08, 2014 ·FoxNews.com

The Obama administration is reportedly preparing a campaign to destroy the Islamic State militant group that could outlast the president's remaining time in office, according to a published report.

The New York Times, citing U.S. officials, reported late Sunday that the White House plan involves three phases that some Pentagon officials believe will require at least three years of sustained effort.

The first phase, airstrikes against Islamic State, also known as ISIS, is already underway in Iraq, where U.S. aircraft have launched 143 attacks since August 8. The second phase involves an intensified effort to train, advise, and equip the Iraqi army, Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, and any Sunni tribesmen willing to fight their ISIS co-religionists. The Times reports that this second phase will begin sometime after Iraq forms a new government, which could happen sometime this week.

Let's see.

We trained Iraqi troops once before, yet these troops surrendered in droves to ISIS while the rest ran away. In Afghanistan, we trained their army, too. Many of those guys turned on our forces & murdered their trainers. Does anybody really expect them to fight the Taleban for very long?

So, I see a repeat of these failures in Iraq. Money & effort to train Iraqis will be wasted on the cowards, while being of great value to the islamists. Our advisers will be murdered by their trainees. And 10 years from now the area will be just as chaotic as today.

If we want to stamp out islamic extremism FOR GOOD, we (the West) are gonna have to do it ourselves. Muslims are cowardly & untrustworthy. They will never be our true friends & allies.

Ann Coulter is right: Invade their countries, kill their leaders (especially imams), & convert them to Christianity (or at least ban islam). Islam is the illness, jihad is the symptom.

Because Obama and the democrats wanted to prove GWB WRONG and therefore we have been set back six years, the loss of Iraq and imminent danger within our shores.

“Americans are asking, “How will we fight and win this war?’’

We will direct every resource at our command—every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary weapon of war—to the destruction and to the defeat of the global terror network.

Now, this war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat.

Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes visible on TV and covert operations secret even in success.

We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place until there is no refuge or no rest.

And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.

First step: CLOSE THE BORDERS. STOP THE PC CRAP - CALL OUT ISLAM FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS (it’s NOT a religion).

This sounds like a pretty good plan. Of course, Obama will have to be president for life to carry it out. Any objections? Just step into this voting booth, fitted with showerheads.

Islamic extremism = ALL MUSLIMS. There are no moderates - they all live by the same book. START BY WIPING OUT THEIR HOMELAND - NUKE IT.

Good point. I was about to write:

Are they planning on occupying Iraq for the foreseeable future with permanent bases like those found in Germany and South Korea?

Without permanent occupation, the entire region will devolve into a tribal and religious nightmare with plenty of bad actors interested in international mayhem. With permanent basis, they might become worthwhile members of the World community, at least the crazies would be subdued.

That's all he's capable of?

I truly believe that his intellect is incapable of assessing the severity of the threat while ISIS was still in a column, beginning to genocide Mosul. If he had the ability to think quickly and draw conclusions and listened to military seniors with those skills, ISIS would've been disintegrated while they were still in a column in the desert.

We have an awful leader. What's disturbing is that other world leaders who could've done something fiddled along with Obama in his "who's the biggest" games with Putin in Ukraine. (not biggest brain, that's established). Yup, the globalist elite continued their power games while people are being slaughtered, and there's a threat that could dismantle civilization.

What's the point of large entities having huge military power when it isn't used in a real not manufactured threat? They're worse than useless...ISIS exists because Obama and Saudi Arabia don't like Assad.

Valerie sets “O’s” agenda, and for now ... ownership of the WH in 2016 is priority for her.

Let the rest of the world go to he$#, “O” is (always was incidental) to Valerie’s agenda and so is the current ME debacle.

“O” isn’t smart enough to challenge her and THAT is why he is where he is and SHE is where SHE is.

As I’ve said before, if President Previous Administration had not been peeing his panties to get the troops out of Iraq, we wouldn’t have to fight this war all over again.

Start delivering an around the clock "Gen. Curtis LeMay method" carpet bombing message that we intend to defeat you all ASAP.

If you like a three year ISIL plan

Hey, Misfit-in Chief:
I think "I have no strategy, yet" is truly your eternal legacy.

So why did U.S. pull out in the first place?

Don't know. Just wish Barack Sr. had.

Obama helped create ISIS. He is incapable of defeating any terrorist organization.

He called ISIS the Junior Varsity team....

Now he wants us to believe he can lead the effort to destroy ISIS??? Ha.

He cannot turn a budget in on time, he cannot protect America’s southern border, he cannot understand the basic economic principles of free market capitalism....all of which can be successfully embraced by your basic high school freshman.

What makes ANYONE think he has a CLUE when it comes to defeating ISIS??

While I am inclined to agree with you, I recall that most folks believed the same thing about the Germans & Japanese during WWII.

A society can change once the evil is beat out of them.
