Possibly. However, I doubt a girl would last very long under such conditions, and they’d have to keep replacing “stock,” which of course cuts into profits.
From what I’ve read of this horrible case, the prostitution seems to have been handled on a very amateurish basis, working out of cars and taxis, etc. Not an efficient assembly line type process at all.
I don’t know what the guys in movie were charging, but I know the product shown wasn’t very appealing, and I can’t imagine they would find buyers for a price that was very high at all. BTW, there have been similar cases in this country. Cops broke one up in FL a while back. The girls were kept chained to beds and serviced migrant farm workers. Doubt the charge was very high.
I’m unfortunately not an economist, but there’s a way to calculate purchase price for an asset based on the income it is capable of producing.
IF a girl were indeed capable of consistently generating $300,000/year, then by far the most profitable trade would be enslaving them and selling them to the pimps. But I don’t know how to calculate how much each girl would go for.
In a recent thread about ISIS, members were chatting online about prices for Yezidi and Christian slave girls. They were going for $200 to $350. Does not line up with a potential earning capacity like that described in the article.
However, it’s also likely the market in the areas controlled by ISIS has been flooded, depressing prices.
And I think the effective careers of these girls is pretty short anyway.
As to the value of the sex slaves in the ISIS part of the world, $200 to $350 would mean something very different than the value in the UK.
I agree that the business appears to be very informal and amateurish, but were are after all dealing with sand monkeys;-).
I can't yet calculate the value of the girls but overtime we will hopefully learn a great deal more about this business as it is exposed.
I think the reason a lot of it is conducted in taxis is because muslims control the taxi business in the areas in which this is occurring and because it is a cheap, safe (cops are paid to look the other way), and quick way to transact this business .
As a final note, I imagine that much of the money collected goes to protection--to the police, social services, commissioners who keep this horrific crime out of the public eye.
Seems like cars and taxis are part of a very modern, mobile economy—think of it as offering the Uber of (young) girlfriends.
And Asian men in the UK have a high disposable income even if they don’t work. My guess is that that $200K-300K figure is high as an average, probably just an upper-end number.
