Judge Officially OKs Central Park Five's $41 Million Settlement (NY)

Nearly three months after the city agreed on the settlement, a federal judge has signed off on $41 million to be given to the five men who, as teens, were wrongfully convicted of raping a jogger in Central Park.

According to the Daily News, "Under the deal approved by Magistrate Judge Ronald Ellis, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Yusef Salaam and Kevin Richardson will get $7.125 million for their years in prison, while Korey Wise will receive $12.25 million. The city will also pay an additional $285,000 in legal fees. The city, however, doesn’t admit to any wrongdoing in the case."

In 2002, Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau said (PDF) the convictions should be vacated, after an inmate named Matias Reyes, serving time for a rape-robbery, rape-murder and robbery, confessed to the 1989 Central Park rape. Testing showed his DNA matched the DNA found at the crime scene, and the five were set free. The Bloomberg administration avoided settling the case for years.

Coulter had a good column on this a few years ago - she made a lot of great points, backed up with facts.
They are guilty as the day is long - but they are black and the victim is white.

Ann Coulter wrote a great article about that and I totally agree with her..

WHAT YOU WON'T READ IN THE PAPERS ABOUT THE 'CENTRAL PARK FIVE'

What we got here is a far leftist commie Mayor who likes to throw around taxpayer money like it's candy. He also "settled" with a bunch of frauds who accused the FDNY of ...*drum roll please*.... RACISM! And how much did he pay them? $98 million!

New York City to pay $98 million to settle case alleging FDNY discriminated against minority applicants

Anyone who lives in New York city, next time you are driving around try to count how many white traffic cops you see. ZERO.

Isn’t it amazing: Attack and rape a woman and become a millionaire. And people argue with me when I tell them NYC is the liberal sewer hole of the East coast, I would say even of the entire country. I know, I grew up there until I finally got smart and moved 2 years ago. There was a case a few months ago where this illegal kept robbing stores and everytime he got arrested he would claim excessive force by the police and he WON! He won money! Not once, not twice but THREE freakin’ times! And they will NOT deport him! Listen to this one: A friend of mine drove a cab there, he said one time he drove a guy all the way to the Bronx and the guy tried to bolt without paying on a $30 fare. So my friend ran after him, tackled him and held him till the cops came. When they did, the guy who tried to bolt claimed my friend punched him so you know what the cop did? He made my friend PAY $100 bucks to the punk because the cop claimed he assaulted him and he could get arrested! Is that unreal or what? It is THE capital of liberal filth, which is why Obama visited there for fundraisers more than any other city.

But then there’s New Jersey right next door. I always thought that it was worse.

If DNA exonerated them I have no problem with that. But seven million? Twelve million? Bullbleep! Yah,perhaps they should get something but not 1/50th of that.

Didn’t they beat her head with a rock? Didn’t they leave her for dead? Why was this hinged only on the rape?

So one guy got mistaken for 5 guys? Or did the guy in prison have some help he is refusing to “out”?

White women should bear in mind that these rapists are now loose (and avoid NYC altogether).

A couple of years ago here in NJ we had a case where some black youths were stopped by police after they had received a report of a gun or something in a car matching the description of theirs. After the routine of “profiling” and such, it turned out the call had originated from one of the creatures in the car (looking for an incident and subsequent pay-out). Too bad they weren’t all shot to death in the hoax...

Forgive me, but that's insane. If you actually bothered to look up rape statistics, New York has the sixth lowest rate of any American city with a population over 250,000. If you want to avoid all population centers, be my guest, but the idea that there is some kind of rape epidemic in New York today -- because of the Central Park jogger case 25 years ago -- is insane.

So what is the punishment for the jurors?
It was not the CITY that convicted these people it was a jury?

I'm not sure exactly what happened,However,I suspect that if the evidence showed that somebody other than the ones convicted committed the rape it must be assumed that they had nothing to do with *anything* that happened to the woman.

This was my very first thought as well. How is it that elected (and unelected) Government officials are not held personally responsible? I mean we should have a class action lawsuit against Lois Lerner... but... well... you know.

I don’t think the city hires whites for any jobs any longer. I ride the train daily and whites don’t appear to make up 10%. They’re probably still in management though.
