An official from the Internal Security Service (ISS), Estonia's national agency for counterintelligence and high-profile corruption investigations, was abducted at gunpoint at Luhamaa border checkpoint this morning where he was discharging service duties, and taken to Russia. There is no indication that the abduction is more than an isolated criminal incident, but on the backdrop of international tensions, the situation is being treated seriously. The incident occurred at about 9:00 on the Estonian side of the border and was preceded by jamming of communications and use of a smoke grenade, the agency said; the interference was said to originate from the Russia side.

Most of them are either settlers moved in post 1945 or descendants of those settlers. Some areas are over 70% ethnic Russian, which certainly doesn’t promote integration into Estonian society.

An employee of the Estonian Security Police has been detained in the Pskov region while conducting an undercover operation, says the Public Relations Centre of the Russian FSB to ITAR-TASS.
“An employee of the Tartu branch of the Security Police department of the Estonian Interior Ministry, Eston Kohver, has been detained in the territory of the Russian Federation. From the intruder were seized a Taurus pistol with ammunition, cash amounting to 5,000 euros, special equipment for making secret recordings as well as other materials characteristic of intelligence operations,” said the FSB PR centre.

As noted elsewhere the Russians have a well deserved reputation for being pathological liars, torturers, and murderers. One of the multitude of examples of the truth of this is the fire brick furnace discovered in the basement of the embassy of the Soviet Union in Paris, France when the German occupation forces seized the Embassy in June 1941. There the German and Vichy French authorities discovered the partially cremated remains of many of the people the Soviet intelligence services had unsuccessfully tried to dispose of in the embassy’s basement furnace. The Russian-Soviets had a habit of kidnapping Westerners off the streets of Western Europe and murdering them after torturing and interrogating them.
These Russian crimes continued long after the Second World War, the Cold War and up to the present day.
