CBC NEWS ^ | 9/3/14

'This is a part of becoming a sexual person in this decade', says psychologist...

The generation of those not raised in the digital media era of the "selfie" may be shocked at the news of the celebrity photo hack — not so much that someone would leak such pictures, but that a number of young actresses would have naked or intimate pictures of themselves.

My guess is they have paid more taxes than you.

Do you always judge whetther people have rights or not based on their occupations?

For whom, your mom?

Probably for each other.

Maybe Kate Upton should ditch the dumb jock verlander (since it was obviously his acct that was hAxoR’d) for a nerd that can keep these “private moments” better secured.

This really is nothing new. Only the technology has changed.

Back when I was young and stupid in the early 1980s I had a friend that worked at the local 1 hour photo shop. He was always showing us copies of naked selfies that he lifted while developing rolls of film. I never understood why people didn’t use Polaroids for those.

Brute force is a very common and oftentimes very effective strategy. MOST companies employ anti-brute force measures to prevent someone from constantly hitting an account until it lets them in. In this case, Apple has openly stated that their "Find my iPad" application was NOT utilizing these countermeasures, so the hackers had as long as they needed to break in.

Let this be a lesson, folks. If you use passwords that contain ANY information that could be gleaned from public interaction, even on social media, you are at risk. The safest passwords are random pass PHRASES. Using phrases instead of single words makes random guesses at your password much more difficult.

Someday most of these bimbos will have kids and when they are in middle and high school they and their friends will be able to look at naked selfies of Mom on the Internet.

I predict years of therapy in their children’s future.

My point is that a handful of dumb celebrities who should bear responsibility for their own actions have suddenly jumped to the head of the FBI’s priority list ahead of things like...oh, I dunno....looking for ISIS sleeper cells?

They have the same “right” to keep their personal info secure as the rest of us. If they fail to do it, whose fault is it? Do you think the FBI would investigate if your acct were to be breached?

Much like Tim Robbins. Political views are preposterous, but he is a deeply gifted actor.

Thanks for posting this. I remember her making this statement regarding PETA a few years back. I instantly liked her after I read it. She at first seemed to be very down to earth. She has had some huge, and well deserved success since “Winters Bone”, IMHO. I am sure the money and fame may have gone to her head. I know it would mine. I also suspect the film companies probably hired a personal trainer to get her in the physical condition she is in currently. She literally worked her a$$ off.

Also, do not feel too bad for these celebrities. I can’t remember who said it: “there is no such thing as bad publicity.” This may actually help Jenifer Lawrence’s career. She looks pretty good in the pictures I have seen.

The safest passwords are random pass PHRASES.

Correct. And the longer the better.

A four or six digit password can be cracked in a matter of minutes regardless of what combination of upper, lower an non-alpha numeric characters you use. A 30 digit long stream of random words cannot be cracked in months or years.

Plus it is a lot easier for you to remember something like "dog fish Aunt iron 5714 bugs" than it is to remember "aFt@3$_Q".

My point is they have as much right to privacy as anybody else...like it or not. They didn't post the photos to the internet.

Do you REALLY think the FBI agents investigating this are the same as those who work terrorism? LOL!

I can honestly say that I don’t think I know anyone who would allow a picture taken of his wife while she performed a sex at on him, nor do I know of a man who would allow a pic taken of his wife nude.

If you don’t want the world to have access, don’t put in the cloud, online, on the web, or in an e-mail. All of that and more are monitored by the NSA and who knows how many other tech savvy miscreants?

The problem with much of this technology is that those who are not technically savvy won’t understand that most of this stuff is turned on my default, ESPECIALLY with Apple products!

She's very attractive too. Unlike most sickly thin Hollyweirdos, she has bodyfat that is put in all the right places.

Full disclosure... I kinda feel bad having seen the photos... but I know that being attracted is not the same as having lustful or disrespectful thoughts.

She's a local girl, so I've followed her career.

As best I can tell, she likes to party but other than that, you'd be hard pressed to find anything untoward about her.

For instance, she founded a local charity that she's quite passionate about:

Jennifer Lawrence sets up special screening of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) -- Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is using a blockbuster film to bring attention to a cause close to her heart.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
is set to debut November 22, but Lawrence, who stars in the film, has paid to show a special screening of the movie in her hometown two days early through her foundation, the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Saint Mary's Center which serves adults and teens with intellectual disabilities, in honor of Lawrence's childhood friend, Andy Strunk, who has down syndrome.

"We thought it would be fun and exciting to host a benefit screening of Catching Fire to help the organization build a new facility for both children and adults," Lawrence said.

While Lawrence won't be able to attend the screening she said, "I'll be there in spirit!"

The screening will take place at 7 p.m. November 20 at Cinemark Tinseltown USA, located at 4400 Towne Center Drive.

Only 350 tickets are available. The tickets will be on sale until November 8 and cost $125 each and include a small popcorn, drink and gift bag of movie memorabilia.  .

You probably do. They just refrained from telling you about it.

Sorry, but I’ve never heard of this woman until the story broke in the news a few days ago. Is she supposed to be some “big deal” actress or model?

I'm beginning to think that conservatives in general and Freepers specifically a bunch of old fogies thoroughly detached from modern American popular culture. I don't think those bodes well when trying to sell conservatism to a generation of younger voters.

I have always liked Jennifer Lawrence. She seems smart, talented and has the ability to laugh at herself, a trait most Hollywood stars sorely lack. Also, I have never heard her lecture anyone on her political beliefs, another trait most Hollywood stars sorely lack. I don't even know what her political beliefs are.

But Good Lord, what was she thinking? Nude selfies are a really bad idea, particularly if you are a celebrity (unless you actually want them to get out and once they get out they are out forever). Saying that is not blaming the victim. It is like telling someone who walks home every night through a dark alley that it is probably not a good idea to carry handfulls of cash.

A celebrity like Jennifer Lawrence has paparazzi following her around most waking hours. At night, they park outside her house and try to take photos through her bedroom window with a telephoto lens. Magazines pay big bucks for nude or even slightly embarrassing photos of celebrities. Every few months another celebrity's nude photos and/or sex videos get leaked to the public. But she did not think that hers would ever get out? Seriously?

I'll bet when Rep. Chris Lee (R) was forced to resign because he got caught trolling Craigslist for women with a shirtless photo it never even occurred to fellow New York Rep. Anthony Weiner (D) that Weiner's naked photos of his wiener would ever get out. Narcissism means never having to worry about getting caught.

As a general rule, don't take a photo that you would not want your kids and their friends to see. It makes life a lot simpler.
