Obama: ‘Revving’ economy calls for higher wages

President Barack Obama renewed his push for Congress to raise the minimum wage Monday in a buoyant accounting of the economy’s “revving” performance, delivered on behalf of Democrats opening their fall campaigns for the midterm congressional elections.

“America deserves a raise,” he told a union crowd in Milwaukee, vowing to keep a hard sell on Congress in much the way he once courted his wife. “I just wore her down,” he cracked.

Timing his push to Labor Day, the traditional start of the autumn campaign, Obama aggressively drew attention to recent economic gains, setting aside past caution on that subject.

“By almost every measure, the American economy and American workers are better off than when I took office,” he said, rattling off a string of improving economic indicators even while acknowledging not all people are benefiting. “The engines,” he said, “are revving a little louder.” …

Higher wages is not the same thing as hiring more people.

Political posturing. The people making minimum wage don’t drive the economy.

If this is a “revving” economy I’d hate to see one on the ropes.

Oh, there have been economies that have been on the ropes... but with this enemedia, you have to go all the way back into the Bush years for that.

Why doesn’t Obama simply increase the minimum Federal wage to $100/hr. minimum? I think he could do that by EO and it would be fun to watch. The rest of us would find it, er, POLARIZING.

You don’t just decree higher wages just like that. This is totally absurd.

....Obama...“By almost every measure, the American economy and American workers are better off than when I took office,”

If the press actually did its job such lies by a political figure would be scrutinized. A leader in a free country can't lie like this for so long and not be held accountable.

He is talking to his base. .. it was a get out to vote speech. . .increase in wages and welfare benefits not to mention free phones, internet, transportation. . .why would anyone want to work? Those captured on film damaging property in Ferguson should have their benefits garnished. OK. . .that was a stupid statement.

"Quick, someone ask this fool why he doesn’t just issue an executive order increasing the minimum wage."

The media and the teachers unions need time to enforce the idea that this is a huge problem. The gay population is estimated at about 3.5% of the nation and yet the media acts as if gay marriage is one of the most important issues of our time.

Minimum wage earners represent just under 3% of the population. So, this needs to be hammered a while to make it an election issue.

no end to his demagoguery

same broken record, day in and day out

all he’s doing is making more and more people lose their jobs

(and preventing many new jobs from being created....)

but it increases the number of Americans dependent on handouts

handouts his gang is in charge of doling out

so it makes them more powerful
(while it destroys American workers, and thereby USA)

everything’s on track, i can stay at the rich honkies’ golf course
