I never heard or read that Columbus ever came within miles of Washington-shouldn’t people in Seattle and the rest of the state be pissed at the explorers who actually went to their part of the continent-like maybe the French and British who romped all over Canada, and there?

MrT5 was from Seattle-2nd generation American, ethnically French with more family in Quebec than in the US-I kidnapped him when he was stationed here...

“...what is the point in anyone at all asking for reparations-we were all likely badly treated/enslaved by newbies aka conquerors-from day one in pre-history..”

We are all descended from murdering rapist cannibals and ought to be suitably humble.

Well, not every one was a cannibal, but historically speaking rape and pillage were considered sports back then, not crimes...

Means that they hate this country. Only 2 months till Columbus day. Find a parade and go to it!

I forgot to add that in the 15-16th century there was a time-honored determining factor for who became enslaved-and that was who happened to lose a conflict...

I went to college in Seattle in the ‘70s; it was going nutcase even then but today they’ve pretty much taken the weirdest city title away from San Francisco. Of course, they have renamed the obligitory street for M.L. King. King County, which was named for V.P. Wm. Rufus DeVane King has also been re-named for the sainted Martin. I’m surprised that S. Jackson St. hasn’t had a “Jesse” tacked on to it.

And now Columbus.

I rarely go there anymore except to see a Sounders match.

Vito, Dominic & the boys ought to show up at the Seattle mayor’s office:

“Nice digs ya got here, Mr. Mayor; be a shame if something should happen to them. Me & the Italian community of Seattle think Columbus Day should stay right where it is now.”

“You gotta problem with that? Well, do ya, punk?”

Perhaps they should be P-O’d at the ancestors of their fellow-travelers .... I believe that trappers & other despoilers of the environment from Russia used to be big players along the West coast from Alaska down thru California.

Well, maybe they can’t really pin a definite date on when those Russians started their depredations-after all they were in Alaska first, since it belonged to them-but everyone knows when Columbus got here, so he’s the easiest one to revile...

This Arizonan got a glimpse of the media mentality there when, a few years ago, there was a sob-article about a ceremony at a Seattle park where they erected a statue to some young Japanese girl killed at Hiroshima.

I asked the reporter if they were going to also erect a statue to (can’t find her name now), a young Hawaiian girl who was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The reporter answered that she wasn’t aware that any civilians died there.

Thanks for clearing up the “King” County mystery.

I've lived here for 10 years, and I've asked a number of life long residents what King County was named before it was changed to King County.

Each of them looked confused and said, “It's always been King County.”

I even Googled it several times trying to find the “original” name - but, no luck.

I just read the Wikipedia entry on Vice President William King.

He died in office, in 1853, when Washington state was still part of the Oregon Territory.

“King” County was named in his honor, and it was the part of the Oregon Territory that today includes Seattle.

Vice President William King's family actually owned 500 slaves on their large cotton plantation in Alabama!

The state AND the county were named after slave owners.

But, times change, and Seattle Leftists may have to soften their hearts against William King and restore his namesake County to its rightful owner.

Why?

A number of historians believe that William King was gay and had a 20 year relationship with President James Buchanan.

Somebody tell our gay Mayor, Ed Murray!

If God wanted to give the West Coast an enema he’d plug it in Seattle.

"027 is the date King’s records are sealed for."

I'd like to see conservatives in congress take up a campaign to end the practice of sealing records. The Clinton files are just now being opened because of his need to do something with that half empty "library". But they are still concealing loads of stuff to give cover to Hillary.

What that means in the long run is that the government is often complicit in aiding the elections of people who maybe should be in jail.
