Apple Just Patched A Security Flaw In iCloud

Engadget reports that Apple has fixed a major bug in its Find My iPhone software that allowed hackers to gain access to iCloud accounts. The fix comes just hours after a hacker leaked hundreds of nude celebrity photos on 4chan in return for Bitcoin donations.

Apple's Find My iPhone login page was discovered to have been vulnerable to so-called "brute force" hacks. Hackers are usually locked out of sites if they try to gain access using multiple passwords, but it was discovered that the Find My iPhone API allows users to repeatedly try different passwords. Security researcher Alexey Troshichev revealed that it's possible to combine this exploit with a list of common passwords in order to make a tool that can gain access to iCloud accounts.

While I finally do all the above - I still do not Facebook, Twitter or iCloud.
Why anyone would dump ALL their personal info from their secure device (PC, tablet, smartphone), into a "cloud" where anything can happen, is beyond me.

I think you’re being sarcastic, but hard to tell. At any rate, there are better phones than iphones, particularly when you factor in the cost of the phone and related services. Apple never cornered the market on phones even though they want people to believe they did.

What is funny to me are all the comments, if this was MS they would be slammed left and right, but since it's Apple the little darling even the negative comments are extremely mild.I think we are going to see more and more hacks against Apple because for one thing it's the challenge they desire and for another all the beautiful, special people own Apple products and the treasure trove of information is just too hard to resist.

Back in the day, when the first Apple computer came out, I drove to the "other" side of town to consider buying one.
I liked what I saw, but the sales reps were so feckin' snooty and condescending, I walked out.
In the ensuing 30-35 years, I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of computers and electronic "stuff" - but not one has been an Apple product.

I believe if your connected to the net, in any way by phone or CPU, you can be compromised. I don’t believe anything is truly secure that is connected.

True enough - but if a hacker gets into your system, he gets all the info for one user.
In contrast, a cloud would appear to be a target rich environment for a hacker, so why would he/she even bother with the single user?

I think "Better" is a relative term. Some folks like some features better than others, which determine which way you go with a phone. Other folks, like me, get hand-me-downs. Wife has an iPhone 5. MIL, who lives with us has iPhone4.5. I have iPhone 4. When wife upgrades to iPhone6, I'll have a 4.5, and MIL will have 5.

if I were buying one new for myself, I'd probably go with an android, because I like having a removable micro-SD card.  To me, that's the differentiating feature that would make the difference. It did when I bought a tablet. Is it important enough for me to buy a new phone when this one works perfectly fine? No.
