This election has been most difficult for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) with one mistake after another taking her off message. First it was discovered that she was charging taxpayers for at least four campaign flights. Her embarrassing mistakes were not something Louisiana voters should expect from a Senator with so much experience. Mary Landrieu has been in political office since 1979 and has served in the U.S. Senate since 1997. It is inexcusable for Landrieu not to know that taxpayers should not be charged for campaign air travel.
Her latest stumble involves residency. When qualifying for re-election, Landrieu used her parents' house on South Prieur Street in New Orleans as her official address. This home is where her parents have lived for decades. It is a house that is jointly owned by Landrieu's mother and a family corporation, but it is not owned by the Senator.
The reality is that Mary Landrieu lives in Washington D.C. in a $2.5 million mansion. In a report with the Federal Election Commission, Landrieu listed her Capitol Hill home as her official address.
Not surprisingly, her GOP opponents have made her residency a major issue in recent days. It was first exposed by GOP challenger Col. Rob Maness who filed an official complaint with the Louisiana Secretary of State. Today, Maness filed additional complaints with four District Attorney offices across Louisiana. It is doubtful that Louisiana District Attorneys, many of whom are Democrats and in the midst of re-election campaigns, will take action against Landrieu.
Nonetheless, her questionable residency will be damaging for Landrieu with voters. It shows that the Senator is much more connected to Washington D.C. than she is to her hometown. While her Senate colleague David Vitter comes back to Louisiana every weekend and clearly lives in Metairie, outside of New Orleans, Landrieu is rarely seen at her “home.” According to one of her neighbors, Fontaine Wells, “I don’t think she lives there (the South Prieur home). She might come visit, but come on now — she lives in D.C. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her.”
In this election, residency questions are another reason for Louisiana voters to oppose Landrieu. She has supported unpopular President Barack Obama 97% of the time. She also voted for Obama's liberal judicial nominees and has supported causes such as gun control, abortion, amnesty for illegal aliens, and higher taxes, all of which are unpopular with most Louisiana voters. She cast the deciding vote on the horrendous Affordable Care Act, which is forcing thousands of Louisiana citizens to pay higher health insurance premiums. Finally, for the coup de grace, she is trying to mislead voters about her residency.
While the Senator is registered to vote in New Orleans, what address does she have on file with the IRS or on her driver's license? Does she even pay state income taxes in Louisiana? These issues need to be investigated. There is a good reason her neighbors have never seen her, Landrieu does not live there.
Landrieu, who is already very vulnerable, is now more vulnerable. According to the Senator, “I have lived at my home on Prieur Street most of my life, and I live there now, when not fulfilling my duties in Washington or serving constituents across the state.”
Her statement is ridiculous. Along with her husband, Landrieu does own real estate in Louisiana, but not a home. How often is Senator Landrieu at her parents' home? Does she sneak in late at night when no one sees her?
As Col. Maness noted to the Washington Post, “A U.S. senator shouldn’t be living with their parents.”
More importantly, a U.S. Senator should not be lying to her constituents.
That’s funny.. Oink!
A shame she’s gonna make it to a runoff thanks to this Maness guy taking votes from Cassidy.

Some observers note that the Democrat-controlled Senate passed Obamacare "after a series of unsavory transactions that purchased the aye votes of several shrewdly extortionate Democrats"....with a huge pile of money still unaccounted for.
The most unsavory was Landrieu's $4.3 billion "Louisisana Purchase."

BACKSTORY In the fall of 2009, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was trying to get the necessary 60 Dimocrat votes to pass the Affordable Care Act. He needed every Dim on board, which gave waffling senators a great deal of leverage. In Landrieu's case, she connivingly saw that selling her aye vote could get her maybe $200 million federal dollars. Obama complied. Reid chalked up another vote for Obamacare. But not the measly $200 million but $4.3 billon was attached to the Obamacare bill earmarked for Landrieu.

How $4.3 billion to Landrieu was calculatedly attached to the Obamacare bill, and how Obama and Reid failed to catch and fix it, is yet another indictment of the Obamacare atrocity.
The $4.3 billion handoff to Landrieu should be investigated as an indication of how EVERY Democrat came to vote for Obamacare....and how tax dollars were laundered to help elect more lock-stepping Democrats.
In July 2008, it was revealed that then-Cong Robert Wexler claimed his mother-in-law's home in Delray Beach, Fla as his official residence (though he was listed on the House roll as "Dem-Boca Raton")...he actually lived in a Maryland suburb for most of the year.
Edward J. Lynch, a Republican running for Wexler's congressional seat, researched Wexler's living arrangements and took his argument to Fox News. "The house he lists on his voter registration is his in-laws' house, in a gated 55-and-older community," Lynch said. "Legally, he can't move back with children under 18."
After Wexler was confronted about the allegation, he stated that his mother-in-law does own the house in Delray Beach. But he also said he stays there when in Florida which, according to his office is, on average, about twice a month.
As a putative Florida resident, Wexler did not pay personal income tax, and his vehicles were also registered in that state, despite his near-permanent residency in Maryland and the Washington metropolitan area.
Wexler, born in 1961, did not meet the age requirements for his mother-in-law's senior community. Wexler later obtained a separate address within Palm Beach County.

WEXLER APPOINTS HIMELF ISLAMIC PEACEMAKER Cong Wexler founded the Congressional Caucus on US-Turkish Relations and got himself a seat on a Congressional Study Group on Turkey.
As the putative "Fla Congressman," Wexler inveigled the US to launch a "cooperative effort" to further Islamic Turkey's "economic and military self-reliance." At Wexler's behest, the US stupidly loaned and granted Islamic Turkey more than $7 billion in economic aid, and more than $14 billion in military assistance.

the runoff, not Cassidy.
He won’t, and heaven forbid he does because he’d definitely have a smaller chance of beating ML than Cassidy.
No recent polling but what has been done indicates a close race at this stage.
Labor Day sort of marks the start of the race so maybe we’ll see some data
before long. If it goes to a runoff I have no idea how it will then turn out.
We should’t be paying for any of that crap. We’re their bosses, or at least we’re supposed to be. Last time I checked, I didn’t authorize that kind of travel.
Buuuuuuuttttttt, to really infuriate the public. I worked as a security contractor in Iraq for a while. When I went home on leave, my travel was paid for by my company who was then reimbursed by the State Dept. I was only allowed to travel to my home of record, in coach. Anything else came out of my pocket.
State Dept folks were given a stipend for travel, $3500. They could use that for their travel home. Not just to get home to the US to see whoever it is they wanted to see. So, if they got a ticket to the State for say, $1500. They could use the remaining $2000 to travel anywhere they wanted. If they lived in DC, but wanted to visit a friend in San Diego, we paid for it. If they wanted to visit their folks in Florida, we paid for it. Funny, I don’t remember agreeing to pay for all their plane tickets while they were on vacation, do you?
As most of you know, ML’s seat in Lousisiana is the one that’s gone the longest without being held by a Republican (but not electing one, since Woody Jenkins was the legitimate winner in 1996, it’s a travesty the GOP-controlled Senate didn’t overturn the election). I started making a list of how long each seat had been held by each party. I’m sure FMDJ and AUH2o will catch any errors.
The number after the state abbreviation is the class the seat is from Class 1 is 2006 2012, Class 2 is 2008 2004 Class 3 is is 2010 2016.
The year is the year it came into the hands of the party that has it, that means the other party last won it 6 years prior to that, unless otherwise noted.

Kansas has gone the longest without a rat Senate win for either seat, George McGill in 1932. McGill first came to the Senate in a 1930 special, he is the only rat to ever hold this seat. 2 Populist Party members are the only other non-Republicans to hold it. Bob Dole had a close call in 1974.

Roberts seat. Kansas and a few other states had popular elections prior to the 17th amendment. Rat William H. Thompson was elected in 1912, technically they had a popular election and the state legislature then elected him after he won it. One other rat, elected by the legislature in 1893 to a vacant term, serving 2 years, was the only other non-Republican to hold the seat.
It’s at moderate risk this year, though I think the rich “independent” (”former” democrat) has a better chance at upsetting Roberts than the weak rat. We’d be in real trouble if Milton Wolf had beaten Roberts.
Looks OK. I probably would’ve just listed the name of the current occupant for each seat rather than number the class, which is confusing (and makes it look like some states have a 3rd seat or that you’re referring to House districts). I’d also tend to list the year of the last party win, rather than the year they left office (since it would reflect the mindset of the voters when they came in, say listing 1994 instead of 2001).
Excellent post! Just a couple of nits: In your introduction, you meant to say that Class 2 elects members in 2008 and 2014 (not 2004); and the name of the WY congressman who was elected to the Senate in 1960 but died before taking office was Edwin Keith Thomson.
Sen-elect. Thomson’s first name was Edwin, but he preferred to go by Keith (in the same way Willard prefers to go by his middle name). Thomson’s death was particularly shocking, since he was only 41, he was to be the youngest Republican Senator for the 1961 session (though 3 Democrats were younger, Harrison Williams of NJ & Vance Hartke of IN (both born in 1919) with Frank Church of neighboring ID the youngest overall, born in 1924 and just 32 when elected in 1956).

I forgot to mention Shelby won the last rat term for his seat in 1986.
And for MO-1 seat currently held by rat McCrapskull (I think there must be a hex on this seat as well, or maybe the entire class which has been a disaster it’s last 3 elections 2000, 2006, 2012) I neglected to mention that the last GOP victory was by Jim Talent in the 2002 special, and the last full term won by a Republican was 1994, Ashcroft.
