Airline travel today = 10lb of excrement in a 5lb bag! Plus you get a colonoscopy courtesy of the TSA both going and returning! You have to wonder when they are going to push the pilots “forward” and add some more seats! Better still, make all planes “drones.”

Ref: 747 Economy from the late '60s.
I think that this was a publicity shot as the first commercial 747 flight was NYC to London in January 1970. Still with the costs and customs of that age, it might very well have looked like that in actual flight but that age's economy fare was indeed quite a bit higher in cost than today.

In comparison, when Airbus rolled out its A380 super-jumbo program in the late 1990s, there were equivalent pictures of roomy seats, lounges and bars to be found on this enormous airplane. While it is true that you can get those amenities on the super-premium 1st class Emirate Air and equivalents, most of the 535 (3 class config) or 800+ (all economy seating) never see the breathing space.

Just for grins, imagine the wait for deplaning from the all economy version ... wince!

“Anyone who is stupid enough to expose themselves to today’s air travel deserves exactly what they get. I don’t know whether to laugh at them or weep for them for willingly subjecting themselves to such indignity.”

Ditto. I won’t fly again unless someone’s life is at stake.

Living in North Carolina, we fly to Arizona to visit my folks to take the rugrat to see the grandparents. Of course, our latest flight to Arizona was a couple of weeks ago, to go to my mother's funeral. Driving to Arizona is a four-day one-way proposition, so no thanks.

This being said, we've never once had a bad experience with TSA, nor have we ever had a problem with any of the other passengers, nor have we ever been "crammed in" like cattle, even though we fly economy.

Honestly, I'm not really sure what you people are whining about.

I too am fairly large and prevented the person in front of me from reclining by wedging my knees into the back of their seat. That’s MY space, sucka.

Multiply you and I by a few million and we might see a change in the tune of the industry and the government who regulates that business...

Its all about the Benjamin’s...;-)
