So, the Indiana University professor who got the grant to create the "Truthy" database denies reports that it's going to track "hate speech." Though, a look into his background suggests he's a big fan of organizations that throw the term around liberally.
The Washington Free Beacon wrote a piece earlier this week on how the federal government gave $1 million to track "hate speech" and "misinformation":

Censorship, intimidation and tyranny are now “science”. That really is progressive.
Just another way for liberals to try to shut down all debate they disagree with.
Typical.
Limited “free” speech is accepted in small doses. Kinda sounds like the 1st amendment is also in real danger.
I have run across a website that tracks specifically this site as well as the the comments of some of our august members. The FSTDT site tracks the comments made by our Christian members for example.
Another site is the FREEPER MADNESS website that tracks us.
Sorry Filippo, but you appear to have stepped in it.
Intentional or just a tool for the Socialists, you are failing to hear everyone around you yelling "FIRE!"
Perhaps you should make an attempt to actually comprehend that you are saying one thing and the rest of the world is saying the opposite.
The underlying base of your PHD from UC San Diego is not producing a positive in regards to your intentions either.
And as for your touted Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing apparent major project to "map the shrinking polar ice sheets" with the Polar Grid equipment and software (Supported by a $1.96 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF)) I see disappointing commentary.
"The news we've seen... is alarming. Scientists say ice sheets in existence for thousands of years are deteriorating rapidly and breaking apart," said Geoffrey Fox. "It is critical to provide polar scientists with access to advanced computing technology during field expeditions; it will help them work more efficiently as they strive to gain a better understanding of the problems facing our planetand will allow them to move more quickly toward finding solutions,"
Oddly, most of the web pages in that Informatics section have not been updated since 2009.
As for your recent admonishment update regarding the truthy project.. Their accusations are based on false claims, supported by bits of text and figures selectively extracted from our writings and presented completely out of context, in misleading ways.
I see it as merely "getting to the point" and filtering out the expected rambling twisted logic that is denying what apparently is the stated original intent of the project.
For example, from that same recent admonishment update regarding the "Truthy" project.
First, a few words about what the "Truthy" research project is not:
a political watchdog
a government probe of social media
an attempt to suppress free speech
a way to define misinformation
a partisan political effort
a database tracking hate speech
Unfortunately this appears to be in direct conflict with text from the actual grant application...
This service could mitigate the diffusion of false and misleading ideas, detect hate speech and subversive propaganda, and assist in the preservation of open debate, the grant said.
Let us pause to ponder as to which political persuasion is noted for making accusations of "hate speech?"
The empirical evidence is quite obvious that you are not being all that "truthy" Mr. Menczer.
.

Kind of a contradictory statement I’d say. Assist in preservation of open debate? Yeah, as long as you agree with us otherwise we’ll leak subversive data about you and vilify you as promoting hate speech.
Just when is it TIME! Will no one start the dance. How about the Rick Perry’s of the world(the national guard thing was a bit if a start). I’m old and tired of all the traitorous activity on the part of the regime the senate the judicial and scared little cowards in the house who dont want to hurt any feelings and sob like little girls. ( it’s Always “wait till the election...then things will change for the better”...well they are not changing and things move backwards or stagnate for a while till they move backwards some more)
I am ready for a strong movement....to quote Jack Nicholson’s joker “This town needs an enema”
Time will tell if:
a: The data really is open and available to all.
b: The data is non-partisan.
c: The data has been de-identified.
.
It will not be non-partisan.
The guy in charge is a flaming radical leftwing wacko. That is how you get government funding after all.
It was "science" when the Stalinists did it too.
