Pic below shows the window of Sneakers Bistro in Winooski VT (ate there once, an ordinary omelette). This small city is next to Burlington and there are nice waterfalls nearby. Some old mills have been converted to retail and there's upscale condos and hotels nearby. Some hip restaurants (I think one is called Common Ground) as well as your basic pizza joint, Donny's NY Pizza (which invites customers to "See all the Yankees Games Here" but I'm sure that they'll still let you in if you're a Red Sox fan and want to spend money). Rest of town seems fairly middle class to me.
People rave about their food on Yelp--again, my omelette was so-so but some people do like them. One spotlight review on Yelp mentions the Canadian bacon...bacon? ---BACON???--- You mean they didn't take it off their menu out of respect for that ONE person (who may or may not have even been into the place) who complained?

"She's hurting," said Decarreau, who has been in touch with the woman. "She didn't realize this is what would happen. If there's a lesson, it's that [online forums] are not the way to deliver a message to an individual or agency. You need to reach out directly to people." The lesson I would've drawn is that perhaps some messages, especially those involving How Offended I AM, shouldn't be delivered on any medium.

I think it would be easier to remove/dispose of the person who made the complaint. One person complained because they felt “uncomfortable,” and wound up offending a lot more people.

Notice the “reporter” doesn’t spend one sentence inquiring as to who are these “large number of Muslim families” and how exactly they all ended up in this small Vermont town.

Given everything, I think that’s a proper, reserved, response.
Either that, or threaten to do some beheading ourselves.

Michael Wood-Lewis of Front Porch Forum agrees. Lamenting the ugly out-of-state reactions to a post that had "too many hallmarks of a sound-bitey, link-bait story," he put a positive spin on it: "There are a lot of bacon conversations going on in Winooski this week. I don't know if it's community building. But it's people talking to each other face to face, which is our goal."
Hyphenated name, references to "community building." I bet this guy sits down to pee.
PS: "Bacon converations"? LOL.

Get them out of here.

I'm very much offended by Islam. Some things are more important than profit. There was nothing wrong with pointing out the attributes of bacon. No Mooslim is forced to eat it and if you're that offended go back to the 7th century mid-east.....better be sure to go to the correct sect....you could lose your head!!!

She, and people like her, aren't hurting enough, as is the dipstick who took the sign down.
When the idiot woman complained, the owner should have just said, "Hey,it's bacon, breakfast food, we serve it here and we're just having fun with it."
But instead, in that liberal fever-swamp (which I used to love before it turned into this) the dummy tripped all over himself to comply.
They both share equally in this stupidity.

Something does not compute here:
Last week, a local woman who identified herself as "a vegan and a member of a Muslim household," posted a note on Front Porch Forum suggesting the sign was offensive.
But . . .
While some media outlets reported the sign protester was a Muslim, giving rise to the anti-Islam vitriol, Winooski City Manager Katherine Decarreau confirmed that she is not.

I have forgotten how to post a pic...
On Pookie’s toons today, there was an excellent graphic that stuck with me. It said;
“In every country where Muslims are the minority, they’re obsessed with minority rights...
In every country with a Muslim majority, there are NO minority rights.”

Vermont is loaded with moose statues, quite often painted in psychedelic colors. Many businesses have those (or wooden bear statues) out in front.
I would love to put one of those up in this garden area with a sign that says
“Yield for Moose Limbs”
