RUSH: Now, you talk about cutting edge of societal evolution, have you seen the story? "Soccer joined the growing legal debate over head injuries Wednesday after FIFA and some of the sport's governing bodies in the United States were made the target of a lawsuit seeking new safety rules."
You know what it is? Concussions. I warned everybody, started a public interest group, Keep Our Own Kids Safe. We have PSAs and everything. Doubting Thomases called here about it, that football was the big danger back then, but I said soccer. There are just as many concussions and people didn't believe me. And here it is, 20 years later, but I didn't have time to get to it. Too bad. Do it tomorrow.

How many kids play soccor? How many concussions? How many dead? I would believe it to be statistically insignificant but oh well.
There have definitely been reports of head/brain trauma associated with “headers.” I’m anxious to hear what he has to say.
The popularity of soccer in America is inversely proportional to the liberty enjoyed by it’s citizens. Do the math, graph it out.
The concussion issue in soccer is not about kids. It is about the pro level. It is about the rules of the pro game which are the same world wide. The rule they are going to examine is the substitution rules. Now each teams gets 3 subs per game, and the player who comes off is out of the rest of the game. When a player gets dinged during the game, his team has to play a man down until he finishes the concussion protocol which can take 5-10 minutes, enough time to make a difference in a big game. Brendan Rodgers is not going to play a man down for that time period or take a key player off who might be able to continue. So the player does not come off due to the drive to win, millions of dollars are at stake in some of these games. This is what FIFA will have to examine, maybe a temporary sub to allow the concussion protocol to be performed. FIFA does not however want to change the nature of the game, one of endurance. This does not apply to the kids, since from the youngest age up thru the NCAA, the game is played with unlimited substitutions and reentry of substituted players.

Rush’s love of the NFL is inexplicable to me, at least modern era NFL. It’s now sport where the cool players can’t self police the mouth breathers, thus 300lb behemoths breaking out the fruity celebrations and chest pounding after even mundane plays. I mean come on.

Especially since they, the NFL, do not love him back. The NFL took a big dump on Rush when he was part of a group trying to buy the Rams. They publicly humiliated him. Even MLB treated Cuban better than the NFL treated Rush.
Good point, I wasn’t even thinking about that. I think what it might be is there are a lot of cool players and coaches past and present like him and are his buds. Which is fine, but the actual current product the NFL puts out is pretty unwatchable, at least to me. I mean, it’s not surprising it is the most popular US sport, looking at the current culture.

...getting our panties in a wad because someone tosses out a jocular remark about soccer, are we...?
See that little thingie called the “Post” button? You know how to use it, but do you know what it really means? Welcome to the internet.
...must be happy hour wherever you are...
Just started, in fact . . . I’ll have a good laugh over the notion that someone made fun of you on a soccer thread and that you felt the need to lash out.
