Beware America’s ruthless burger monarch
National Post ^ | August 28, 2014 | National Post Editorial Board

Oh, he smiles nice for his royal retinue. But remember that the Burger King — like any absolute monarch — cares not a whit for the common people, especially if they are Canadian.

The Burger King’s expansionist desires have been clear for many years. But with the brazen annexation of an iconic Canadian restaurant chain this week, the time for appeasement is over.

In interviews with the Financial Post, the Burger King’s minions assured Tim Hortons customers that their coffee-and-crullers experience would remain untouched. Words in the wind. We recall hearing similar soothing noises from the last quick-service imperialist to darken our door: the deceptively avuncular Dave Thomas, who claimed Tim Hortons for Princess Wendy’s empire in 1995. Soon enough, Tim Hortons was playing Hungarian to Wendy’s Austro, with the aromas of coffee and beef mingling outrageously under the same roof in suburban and roadside “combo locations” while King Dave counted his golden doubloons in Florida.

The ensuing Fast Food Wars of the mid-2000s were bitter and protracted, coming at a great cost in blood, treasure and condiments. Had so many Thomasite forces not deserted en masse after King Dave’s death, we might have lost Tim Hortons forever. But we prevailed, and on IPO Day we danced in the streets as businessman Nelson Peltz became our unlikely Cromwell. Now, the carno-monarchists are back, and we are living among the first days of the Burger Restoration.

I know that Tim Horton’s coffee is good, but the author needs to cut down.

Frankly I don’t blame them, they just want some over taxed relief that moving HQ to Canada will provide. We are going to see a lot more of these type moves in the future. It will take the next president a decade to undo 0’s damage IF we can get a conservative congress and a President. And boot some fed judges off the bench. Especially at the USSC level. Better vetting needs to be done there. Along with president and congress.

NEVER give to the National GOP any thing. Give to your Candidate. National only uses what you give to prop up the likes of Lamar Alexander, John McCain and Gramnesty and their ilk.

Strange that they have missed what our White Hut monarch has done to U.S.

Our tax laws have just sent Burger King into exile.

” Our tax laws have just sent Burger King into exile. “

Liberal: We hate you big successful businesses, I wish you would leave!!!!

(business finally throws it’s hands up and leaves)

Liberal: Why are you leaving? I demand you stay here!!!!!!

All Liberal Policies are like a crazy needy girlfriend who is very much INSANE!

It is a like a Girlfriend who constantly bitches about her boyfriend and then when he goes to leave the relationship she is furious that he is leaving...

For those of you, as I, who do not know what a Tim Horton's is:

Tim Horton's Inc. is a Canadian multinational fast casual restaurant known for its coffee and doughnuts.

I never realized how much dislike there is for fast food chains that have been massive successes. Gosh, I’d love to open a fast food enterprise and franchise it out to thousands of units. I guess that would make me a bad guy too.

Capitalism, so yesterday...

My mother was born in Canada. According to her, it was Picton, Ontario. In 1991, the year after she died, my youngest son and I went to Picton to do some genealogical research. I found out a lot of interesting facts about her side of the family. I even managed to locate cousins I didn’t know I had by writing a letter to the Picton newspaper. During one of my trips to Picton, we visited a Tim Horton’s. I’d never heard of them before. What was even more surprising, was that they told me we were related (cousins) to Tim Horton. I had no idea who he was, or about his career in the NHL.

Relocating to Canada to escape high taxes here in the U.S.

Somehow, that sounds strange.

Everybody tries to avoid taxes. People in Connecticut drive to Massachusetts and Rhode Island to escape CT's high gasoline taxes.

Others drive to New Hampshire to buy their booze because of lower taxes.

John Kerry registered his yacht in Rhode Island to escape taxes.

Ever notice truck trailers on the roads with Maine or Oklahoma plates to escape taxes?

Rental trucks..Indiana. U-Haul trucks and trailers....Arizona.

Anybody who lives near a state line where the neighboring state has a lower sales tax does all their shopping in the state with lower sales tax.

Even the Libs in NY state know taxes hurt business so they offer 10 year no tax deals to move there. Why don't company relocate in droves to go there? Cause after 10 years it is too costly to relocate and the state screws you with taxes.

If not paying taxes is unpatriotic, then CPA's would all be in jail for treason.

I'd love to have Tim Horton's come here to the Pittsburgh area. Not just their coffee, their burgers and rolls are way better than what Burger King offers-- not as large but far tastier.

I look forward to eating at Tim Horton's whenever business takes me to the Buffalo or Toronto areas.
