RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Members of the Massachusetts Air National Guard left for the site of an F-15 crash late Wednesday, hours after witnesses reported seeing a parachute deploy in the air.

The eyewitness accounts of a pilot ejection near Elliot Knob, Va. were first published in the Staunton News Leader, although helicopters have not found a parachute.

Who was the pilot? What was his religion? Just curious.

Not a good area to have to pop out unless you are lucky enough to land in a field. Lots of step terrain and heavy mountain foliage if Stauton was the area it happened in.

Ejection is physically hazardous. In cases where no pilot error is involved, my understanding is something like 50 percent of ejections result in a medical end of career.

Won’t be identified until found. Is very experienced so where would you get lots of experience.

By the way, it’s 64* in Deerfield but in the George Washington Forest on a hill, possibly injured, Please pray, y’all.

What’s his religion got to do with anything?

Yea really. Military craft has been going down in the Appalachians and foothills since WW2 training. Some wreckages have taken a long time to locate. If he's not hurt and keeps his head even in the area last seen he has a good chance of walking out in a days time. If injured? In those mountains you could walk by someone 10 feet away and still not see them.

I’m sure you would agree, it’s still better than the alternative.

Oh yeah definitely better. All you can do is hope you survive the jettison and land in a field or even water. Trees are bad news.

Many years ago the Tactical Air Command had a flight safety magazine called TAC ATTACK. On the last page the command would print safety statistics, number of accidents, etc. One statistic always printed was Number of Ejections followed by Number of Successful Ejections. Rarely were the numbers the same.

Oh my God, really.

They haven’t released the name of the pilot.

You should be praying for him, not making stupid comments on a public forum.

The ACES II bang seat has really helped bring those two numbers together.

I met, once, a Raptor pilot who had to step outside his aircraft mid-flight. Based on his account (low level eject during take off when messed up sensors sent the aircraft spinning on all three axises) the ACES II is freakin’ amazing.

Yup, should be praying the LORD guides someone to him. Where are the ravens or falcons? Wouldn’t they be able to find someone that way?

Strangely worded headline. I have never before heard of regular, reserve or National Guard units, US that is, referred to as “security forces.” It brings to mind Rhodesia circa 1977.

The USAF calls it's security personnel "Security Police". These people would participate in a ground SAR operation. The MSM in their usual dilligence on military matters probably just thought "security forces" was close enough.

It is strange that they have to come from Mass though. One would think local national guard and military would be active in a broad area search, especially if there was a survivor..

The USAF version of MPs are from the Security Forces Squadron and refered to as Security Forces.
