There is a pervasive belief that poverty is a key driver of terrorism... Bill Clinton has stated “we have to create more opportunity for those left behind by progress, thus reducing the pool of potential terrorists.”

This framing of poverty and development as national security issues continued with the Obama administration. In Obama’s reckoning “our security and prosperity depend on the security and prosperity of others.” As the head of USAID put it: “On the logo of USAid, it says ‘from the American people.’ but our work has to be seen as ‘for the American people.’ Development is a fundamental part of our national security. It is extreme poverty which creates the long-term drivers of our insecurity.”

Yet prosperous Western nations are themselves now exporters of Jihad.

Hey Bill....it’s called CHOICE - kinda like your choice to do what you did in the White House with the intern...lie about it...then come out in front of everyone and tell the truth as you were impeached...Choice - Islam chooses to be VIOLENT, RAPIST, MURDERERS, bent on destruction and submission...being poor has nothing to do with it...they chose to be left behind - because they want to stay in the 7th Century mindset that “men know best” and “women have to be submissive” - now that I tihnk about it - Bill and Islam has a a few common threads that are shared!

I've believed since the 1970’s that terrorists of all stripes suffer from emotional or mental disorders—psychopathy, malignant narcissism, antisocial personality disorder, etc. The terrorist uses radical ideology or religion as a vehicle to act out his urge to kill, maim, rob, destroy property, and gain power through fear. One example is the original Black Panthers who masked themselves in politics to justify the crimes most of them had been committing since childhood. The same can be said of Frank and Jesse James.

Wanting it one’s own way without respect to others is what terrorism is about.

Many of these terrorists are from the middle class, comfortable enough to think about wants and desires greater than day to day survival and come to hate those in power.

The starving peasant burns himself when his land, the ability to feed his family, is taken away. He storms the castle to get his daughter back or avenge the murder of family members.
Those who have some leisure and all needs met start to think of more, ideologies and justifications that the upper class uses and decide upon a different one.
The 9-11-01 hijackers were engineers, pilots, etc - not starving peasants. They hated America / the West and struck because they had more than hand-to-mouth lives.

Islam is the main driver in terrorism. If it were poverty Hondurans sneaking in to tge country would be blowing themselves up instead of hanging drywall.
