RICHVILLE, N.Y. – The Amish are famous for their barn raisings, when an entire community turns out to help a neighbor.

In northern New York, members of an extended Amish family plan to hold a "garage raising" for the couple who returned two kidnapped Amish girls to their home.

Jeffrey and Pamela Stinson tell the Watertown Daily Times (http://bit.ly/1l8vUYL ) that the garage at their home in St. Lawrence County recently burned down while they were on vacation in Maine. The fire was believed to have been started by a stray cat knocking over a battery jumpstart box inside.

From the linked article we learn more about the abduction:
"Two days after the girls were abducted on Aug. 13, police arrested a local couple and charged them with kidnapping. Police said Nicole Vaisey, 25, and Stephen Howells Jr., 39, of nearby Hermon, used a dog to lure the girls into the couple's car.

The girls, who authorities say were sexually abused, were released a day after being abducted when Vaisey and Howells were apparently spooked by an intense police investigation and media coverage, authorities said.

Yep, Vaisey and Howells should be hung or at the very least spend the rest of their days in prison but of course they won’t.

Glad to hear the fire was at least not arson. Bad kitty!

Great, but the county will come after them for lacking a permit and up their property tax and the feds will come after them for income tax owed on the building.

The Amish have always fascinated me. Tough life, but do many good qualities to appreciate.

There are several Amish where I live and I just can’t imagine living as they do. We had sweltering humidity yesterday and I saw several families riding along the roadside in their black buggies. God bless them all and I wish the evil people would leave them alone.

You probably don’t find it as much these days but back in 1965 I was with a youth group of about 16 people. Part of a YMHA. We visited Amish Country around Lancaster and had a summer lunch at an Amish farmhouse. Delicious with about nine different vegetable dishes including pickled ones. And some meats. We ate what the family would typically eat with some extras I suppose

The Amish farmers would bring in a little extra income this way
