Well, what fun is that? Many were hoping to munch popcorn and see Rick Perry’s attorneys spend the next few months ripping Travis County DA Rosemary Lehmberg to shreds over her blatantly political effort to get the Texas governor indicted for cutting off her funding. Accusing Perry of being drunk with power is rather amusing, under the circumstances, but apparently Perry has better things to do with his time:
The writ claims the charges of abuse of power and coercion filed against Perry are unconstitutional and that Perry was simply exercising his constitutional veto powers when he vetoed funding for the Public Integrity Unit last summer.
“By seeking to criminalize not merely the veto itself, but the Governor’s explanation for it as well, this prosecution also violates the Governor’s rights under Free Speech Clauses of the United States and Texas Constitution…” the writ says in part.
The writ also says the indictment violates the constitutional separation of powers and the speech or debate clause in the Texas Constitution.
Note that this is not a motion seeking to quash the indictment, but for the court to rule in essence that there is no there there by dismissing the entire case with prejudice. As the page count indicates — sixty in all — Perry’s attorneys are bringing the kitchen-sink approach to the motion. It specifies in detail all of the ways in which the two counts violate the Texas constitution, the First Amendment, and the separation of powers.

She looks like one of those monsters from a 1950s B movie.
She might be! We need some kind of DNA check.... but everyone is afraid to approach....
A third drunken driving conviction should have landed her in state prison for a minimum of 2 years .... think she performed some type of sex act to stay out of prison?
She was given 1 hour to sober up roadside in the fresh air before she was taken into the station and submitted a blood sample.
It was over half an hour before she was even given a field sobriety test and the cop administering it should’ve failed her much sooner but he kept giving her more chances saying she was leaving him no other options (she kept disobeying instruction to keep her hands at her side, turn only her head, remain quiet, etc while he was having her follow a light pen with her eyes; also she repeatedly failed the “walking a straight line” but she got plenty of do-overs all on dashboard cam).
How many other DWI “stops” have 60 minutes invested in negotiations before taking the suspect downtown?

Greg Abbot?
Running for Texas governor. A good guy.
She might be! We need some kind of DNA check.... but everyone is afraid to approach....

Didn't she spit on the police?
Stay classy.
Greg Hamilton. He’s the county sheriff. He’s also a dem, but a real stand up guy. He’s still one of the good guys.
I moved north to Fort Worth in the fall, 1981. It still had that medium size feel to it and was willing to let Dallas believe it was the cosmopolitan sibling (gender unknown).
I was able to drive from North Loop 820 to downtown on I-35 and never go slower than 70 mph. I remember the first time I saw all three lanes clabbered up and no wreck in sight. It took me a second to comprehend those cars were completely stopped, as it was my first time to see it there. I conjured a collective noun, a “consensus” of brake lights, to describe what I was seeing.
A co-worker said the rich boys running Fort Worth were in a “pecker waving” contest with Dallas. The smaller, more comfortable Fort Worth is now gone the way of the old I-30 and I-35 downtown interchange. I’ve read in the Startle Gram there are gay bars in Fort Worth. Taxpayers are building a lake just north of downtown and the West no longer begins in Fort Worth. Maybe it begins around White Settlement now. Can we still say White Settlement?
Anyway, screw ‘em. I’ve retired and moved back south where men are men and the women allow it.
It was a first offense DWI and a Class A Misdemeanor. 45 days in jail and $4000 fine, which was the maximum sentence. But she served only about half of the time and her drivers license was suspended for 6 months.
Sounds like she would get a pass even if she hit a kid.
Integrity for thee, but not for me.
Or tanked and naked on The Office.
"Greg" is the county sheriff - I think his name is Greg Hamilton. She was trying to get them to call her "buddy" the Sheriff (i.e., the boss of the cops who arrested her) so he could tell them to let her go.
You are referring to Obama, of course.
#OOOHSCARYSTUFFKIDS
Nacogdoches comes to mind since it is the oldest city in the entire state.
Your FR nick is appropriate (although you should substitute “never” for “once” to improve its accuracy).
>> think she performed some type of sex act to stay out of prison?
That makes no sense.
However I could believe she *threatened* someone with a sex act if they put her in prison. :-)
What am I talking about?
The TTC, the toll road, the teenage girl vaccinations, the one poor bastard that died with questionable arson conviction and the film clips of the DPs stop. I can see, “adios MOFO” clip on a loop.
Perry cannot be elected. Sorry troops.
