The Loma Prieta (World Series) quake in NoCal was a 6.9. The USGS lists this new one in Peru at 6.9 as well.

It is sobering to drive inside, Lima Peru along the beach.... Pretty scenery. Good roads (at least on that part of Lima) and good beach recreation.....
And see regularly posted “Tsunami Evacuation” signs on the crosswalks leaving the beach.
Tidal waves ARE a threat down there. Earthquakes, landslides, and falling debris. It is a real threat.

Chile had a 6 something magnitude quake the day before California’s. When it happened in Chile I was wondering if it would affect the tectonic plates in the Pacific. Following day the Ca quake.
Peru is north of Chile. Closer to Ca. Watch out Ca.
