Yes they were...perhaps 3-4 inches shorter on average. General Washington, at 6’ 2.5” towered above all.

Not all of them. Washington was over 6' tall. Madison was the shortest President, but also the brainiest.

Yes, Ulysses S. Grant was only 5’8”.

Yes, with smaller butts too. The 1865 seats in Ford’s Theater are too small for the average American butt today.

T.J. and G.W. were 6’+.

Monroe was the shortest ever.

As a short guy who commands great respect, the one thing this list doesn’t measure is the brass % in the gonads :)
