'Washington Post' editorial board stops using Redskins name
CBS Sports ^ | August 22, 2014 | Will Brinson

More and more we're hearing about various members of the media ceasing to use the name "Redskins." In perhaps the biggest deal yet, the Washington Post announced Friday the editorial board would cease using the team's nickname.

"While we wait for the NFL to catch up with public opinion and common decency we have decided not to use the slur ourselves except when it is essential for clarity or effect," said a statement on the paper's own site.

Worth noting: this doesn't affect the actual paper. The news-gathering side of the business can -- and will as we understand it -- continue to use the name of the team throughout work.

FWIW, Washington was a slave holder. Why is their Newspaper named after a known slave holder?

Yep, as I said, they will eventually get around to that.

I propose a name switch from Washington Redskins to Washington Crusaders.

For decades the Compost wrote stories about their beloved “Redskins.” Only now does the name become “offensive.” Why now? Because it is politically correct to be offended. Somewhere in hell, the editorial staff of the 1930s Pravda have taken a break from their eternal misery to smile, even if only for a moment.

My choice would be to just remove the last four letters and make it “Reds”.

"The Redskins should cut off the Post’s access to the team and players."

Yep! You don't recognize us, we don't recognize you! Do you think the Redskins wouldn't sell out the stadium?

“The Redskins should cut off the Post’s access to the team and players”

Bingo. Although I do propose they change their name to the San Antonio Bandits. However, for the sake of a good rivalry, keep the name and two Sunday a season the Cowboys will play the Redskins.

... followed by a movement to rename “Washington DC” to “Lincoln DC”.

Ah, but you forget the next PC step; DC stands for "District of Columbia" which honors that dead white European Male, Christopher Columbus, who was responsible for bring so much misery to this continent. So DC will have to be renamed, it can't be America because Américo Vespucio is another of them DWEMs so there has to be some mutually acceptable to even the most fanatic WaPo editorialist. Good luck with that!
