'Washington Post' editorial board stops using Redskins name
CBS Sports ^ | August 22, 2014 | Will Brinson

More and more we're hearing about various members of the media ceasing to use the name "Redskins." In perhaps the biggest deal yet, the Washington Post announced Friday the editorial board would cease using the team's nickname.

"While we wait for the NFL to catch up with public opinion and common decency we have decided not to use the slur ourselves except when it is essential for clarity or effect," said a statement on the paper's own site.

Worth noting: this doesn't affect the actual paper. The news-gathering side of the business can -- and will as we understand it -- continue to use the name of the team throughout work.

So we should stop using the Washinton Post’s name ...

Call it the Compost. Or the Pest. Or the Potomac Pravda.

All polls I have seen show strong support for keeping the Redskins name.

.............

Liberal, “holier than thou” opinion is the only one that counts.

YES....... I agree.
I was disgusted when I heard that a bunch of Redskins team members came out on field with “hands up” sign for Fergie garbage.

LEAVE the NFL alone, all you wooosies ! Stop pushing PC on the NFL. Yes, I’m a gal, that loves football - specifically Packers, and one month of pink, gay’s being promoted, no Redskins name, touch football rules, no end zone celebration, Bob Costas 1/2 time @#%^*& rants.. need I go on? Anyone else fed up?

We have plenty of Washingtons to choose from!

Washington: The 'Blackest Name' In America

The 2000 U.S. Census counted 163,036 people with the surname Washington. Ninety percent of them were African-American, a far higher black percentage than for any other common name.

The redskins management should run a full page ad in the monday Washington post with a count of the number of times the editorial section actually mentioned the redskins in the last five years. They should also politely inform the sports section staff that if they still want access to team staff, they better come out against this stupid stunt and fast.

Does the washington times have a sports section? A lot of the dwindling population of newspaper subscibers want that sports section for their home town team. The majority of post readers may not care about sports, but the management will notice a dent in subscriptions and ad revenue.

With the world on fire, according to some of Obama’s lieutenants, it’s gratifying that there are some people, like these editors, who are willing to stand in the breach and protect us from the real dangers that threaten us.

And I’m sure there are a lot of businesses too. I still think it’s appropriate to fight fire with fire.

Lets see how fast the Washington Post drops the family name Washington.

I think it’s safe to say, the Post didn’t use the name to honor any other entity besides the father of our nation.

It sought to capitalize on his good name.

Now let them drop it. It’s very offensive to me that they use that name.

> The Redskins should cut off the Post’s access to the team and players

Totally agree. Don’t let any of their journalists onto the field or near the locker rooms. Gag order the players so they don’t grant them any interviews. That’ll shut the Post up.

The Anti-American Left’s ultimate goal is to take down George Washington.

I expect increased calls to remove him from the One-Dollar bill, followed by a movement to rename “Washington DC” to “Lincoln DC”.

Who knows, as this nation crumbles we’ll see more and more of this. What a comedy of errors... and subterfuge.

There was a post the other day concerning the Vikings not recognizing the name of Redskins. I asked a co-worker of mine if she could hear the irony. She didn’t.

I had to explain that Vikings describes a white section of people in history known for their viciousness, brutality, raping, pillaging, etc...

But white people aren’t raised to find offense in anything and everything possible. Big difference!!

FWIW, Washington was a slave holder. Why is their Newspaper named after a known slave holder?
