Farm Couple Fined Thousands for Declining Gay Wedding
CBN ^ | August 22, 2014 | CBN

A New York couple faces thousands of dollars in fines for declining to rent out their family farm for a same-sex wedding celebration.

The New York State Division of Human Rights fined Cynthia and Robert Gifford $13,000 for declining a request from a lesbian couple to rent the family barn for their ceremony.

The Giffords have owned and operated Liberty Ridge Farm in for over 25 years. They believe marriage is the union of one man and one woman.

Like many small farm families, they often open up their home to host public events, including weddings.

In addition to the fines, the family has been told to implement "re-education" classes for their staff.

Should the government be in the business of "re-educating" citizens to change their moral beliefs? Ryan Anderson, with the Heritage Foundation, talks about this and more.

Second, even if the couple regularly allowed their barn to be used for weddings, that doesn’t mean they didn’t ALWAYS determine who could or could not use it based on other than dollars.

Let's look at it another way:

A lot of large landowners will rent their land for corporate events.

Let's say that a group wants to rent a farm for a shooting event similar to TexasCowboy Shoot that FReepers have each year, should a farmer who doesn't like firearms be fined for refusing to host such an event?

Certainly not. Laughed at and mocked maybe.

Private property is just what it sounds like.

The Government better wise up or they may end up being the ones re-educated!

The question on that is whether they take a tax writeoff for using their home as a business.

As a seasonal paid tax preparer, let me just say that taking a 'tax write-off' is, in some cases, NOT VOLUNTARY! The most obvious example is in taking depreciation on business assets. This is a tax credit against your business income. It is reclaimed against the profit realized upon selling the asset and/or business. If the tax payer does not claim it in the years of the business, it still has to be repaid at the end.

Since I do not work in New York, I cannot point to any other specific items but I am confident that they exist. A very key point to be made is that to be in business is to have 2 or more silent partners, the Federal and state governments. They contribute little but they certainly do demand a lot. This is an example of the regulatory burden placed upon business and personal behavior.

...

ON A SEPARATE NOTE: Please note the modern erosion of our citizen rights. Our country's founders never envisioned a society where punishment came from outside the court system. The concept of appointed commissions and non-judicial fines and punishments were anathema to them BUT now they are so common as to be accepted by the sheeple!

From the USLeagal website on the query of jury trial in the US Constitution;
Three separate provisions of the U.S. Constitution provide for the right to a trial by jury. Article III, Sec. 2 provides: “The trial of all crimes shall be by jury and such trial shall be held in the state where the said crimes have been committed.” The Sixth Amendment says: “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury of the state where the said crimes shall have been committed.” Finally, for civil matters, the Seventh Amendment provides: “In all suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise reexamined by an court of the United States.”

The import of this move away from jury trial, is that the ordinary citizen cannot appeal to their peers for relief from irrational governance until and unless the case becomes significant and expensive enough to enter the court system. Thus the bureaucrat rules almost unrestrained!

.’re-education of children” for example in homofascist religious ideology.

If I was a mean evil told you so, I’d say, been a while since you’ve been around the “public” school system.

...but I’m not that guy, so let me say this about that, the public school “system” is in my opinion one of many reasons we find ourselves in the “mess” we are in where coexist, and tolerance of all including evil, is accepted behavior. It’s been going on long enough that we are definitely in the advanced stages of a crumbling society.

This is stark naked tyranny perpetrated by the 1.7% and a pandering government.

Get back in the closet, you lezbos. You can’t get “married” anymore than you can marry your hamster.
neither union would produce legitimate (or even possible) offspring, which is the purpose of marriage.

I hope that the entire community including the Faithful gather around these people and counter-sue
everyone who is persecuting them and their religious freedom in accordance with the Constitution.

There is going to come a time when this gets REAL for all of us. Are any of us going to stand up when it costs $13,000 or even $1.

That IS the infamous state of Neu Yuk, IIRC.

In what way is this surprising?

New Yuk state has been treasonous since the days of the Revolutionary War, when many Neu Yukkers supported King James.

Having been graduated from a Mid-Hudson Valley school, I had to live in the contradiction which rots the soul of the Neu Yuk resident. The Big Shity, AKA New York City, is a core area of communism in America, second only to Chi-Congo, AKA Chicago.

Commies and queers have always been allies against America.

Bah! Humbuggery!

A plague upon both of their kind.

Ummm, King James was at least a century and a half before King George III but your point is spot on. They were a loyalist stronghold during the revolution, a democrat, antiwar, pro-slavery stronghold during the Civil War. NY and NYC was one of the primary birthplaces of the democrat-union-communist-mafia triumvirate criminal enterprise.

Submit or pay tribute. Guess threat of death is next ... Reminds me of a particular cult

The islamofascists say to Christians: convert, pay 2nd class citizen life impoverishment tax continually, or be executed.

The homofascists say to Christians: convert, pay 2nd class citizen fines with reeducation, or be financially/legally ruined/imprisoned.

Not a whole lot of difference between Hamas and Homas.

If the barn has a dirt floor, flood it. Keep animals going in and out. The manure can be dug out later.
