Palin goes 0 for 2 in Alaska as clout disappears nationally

WASHINGTON -- Sarah Palin has lost the magic. The defeat of her choice Tuesday in a Republican Senate primary in her home state of Alaska capped a primary season in which her favored candidates have stumbled across the nation.

A referendum to restore Palin’s signature achievement from her time as Alaska governor, a state tax on oil companies, was also headed toward defeat following Tuesday’s voting, dealing a double whammy loss to Palin in her home state and highlighting her declining influence.

Only four of the 15 congressional candidates endorsed by Palin nationwide this year have won their primaries, a far worse record than the previous two elections, when Palin played a role as kingmaker and her approval was eagerly sought by candidates looking for an edge with Republican voters.

Palin remains talented at raising money. “But her influence on the actual political process is diminishing rapidly,” said John Feehery, a Republican political consultant and former aide to GOP leadership in the House of Representatives.

there are still true believers here but they are no longer the majority that once existed.

And you have come to this conclusion based on what set of facts?

Alaska's Tax Structure Changes all the time.

Besides, the Democrats Never give up, did they give up after '94? No, they kept acting like winners.

They never give up And Neither should we.

When you have a Republican establishment person running and two others, the vote is split and the establishment guy wins. I wouldn't be surprised if the Republican elites are behind some of these guys becoming spoilers.

It didn't help when Sarah's father-in-law came out in support of the third candidate.

Funny, she last ran for office in 2008 and left the governorship in 2009, yet six years later we’re still talking about her and they’re still writing about her on a daily basis. How do I know? I see them. Most days there are a dozen or two, but many days there are hundreds. Now I’m going to provide you a list of people. What do they have in common? Dick Cheney, Al Gore, Dan Quayle and Walter Mondale.

Well, there are several measures at work here.

One of which is did she move races into the close territory or did she have no impact at all.

Every race she gets involved with increases the support for the person she endorses.

When that ceases to be the case, you will have a point.

To say she endorsed 15 and 4 won is factual. It’s not disputable. The point is well made - she was a lot more effective in endorsements in 2010 than now. And it makes sense. Back in 2010, many of her supporters stayed true to her because they were absolutely convinced she was going to make that serious POTUS run in 2012. When she bailed on that in October of 2011, a chunk of those who were looking to her to right the ship of the nation started looking elsewhere. A percentage of them in 2012 essentially stopped taking her POTUS aspirations - which she herself stoked - seriously. By 2014, and after signing to do not only another television show on some cable channel, but also starting her own subscription based network, more of those who pinned their hopes to her in a political sense were getting the idea she has no serious designs to run for office again. Her name as a candidate hasn’t been on a ballot since she was elected governor (as 2008 VP she wasn’t the ballot name, McLame was). So she herself has not run for any office for 8 years. Her rash of endorsements in this 2014 cycle seemed to coincide with the beginning of her new series (is it even still on the air?).

It’s become clear Sarah Palin is more interested in being a celebrity than an office holder.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting. Sullivan had 40 percent of the vote, while Miller had garnered 32 percent and Treadwell placed third with 25 percent.

Not such a bad a result. In many states Sullivan and Miller would be now campaigning for a runoff vote. And I think Miller has lost some appeal after he lost to Murkowski when she was a write-in candidate.

“John Feehery, a Republican political consultant and former aide to GOP leadership in the House of Representatives. “

Yeah, the consultant class is doing wonders for the GOP while they line their own pockets.

History waits for nobody, and gives no second chances. Palin could have turned this nation around, she could have ran for the highest office and atleast attempted to return this nation to what it once was. She could have been greater than Reagan or Thatcher. Instead she resigned from her governorship (why? A disastrous political move), backed out of what was obviously a Presidential run (taking forever to do it, thus weakening other conservatives in the race), and decided to become a pundit and TV personality (the lowest form of life on earth).

Now instead of leading the free world and trying to save western Christian civilization she is a recurrent joke for liberals. She was offered the reigns of history and she walked away, I challenge anyone else here to name a bigger waste of potential in modern American politics.

Miller lost by 8 points despite the usual triangulation tactics that split conservatives, and despite the fact that he had no media and no money. If he got any support at all he would have won. Sad.

there is a fallacy in your thinking. the fact that sarah endorsed 4 winners does not mean that her endorsement was responsible for the win

Oliviaforever:"That is what happens when you have the guts that Sarah Palin has to pick the underdogs
and stand behind the underdogs who stand for America and against the GOP Establishment.
This only proves that Sarah Palin is strong and the GOPe is weak.

She has changed the language of the GOPe hopefuls .
Most of the RINOS have had to claim Conservative values
even though , once in office , their true colors are shown.
More appropriately , they should be called "CHINOS" (Conservatives In Name Only, ..SUCKERS ! )
