Center mass or nothing.
If the adversary is wearing body armour or is partially covered, center of mass may not be effective.
Jus' sayin' ...
In general, first shots go to CoM.
Also, shooting hips or thighs is almost as likely to kill the adversary as shooting CoM. A ruptured femoral artery is often fatal.
I just took & passed my CCW qualification course. We were taught to aim center of mass. The goal is not to wound or kill or anything other than STOP THE THREAT.
If the instructor had said, “OK, your next five rounds will be aimed where you want to wound your attacker but not kill him”, I would have said “HUH!!?”
I’m not that good a pistol shot (my wife is much much better, using a .45) and I aim center mass both to stop, & to place as many rounds as possible into, the target.
