Native Texan here. Texas gun laws are much more restrictive than you'd believe if you just listened to the media or paid attention to stereotypes. There is no provision under Texas law for open carry of handguns at all (though you can open carry long guns). The author is wrong about ammunition though, as you don't have to sign anything to buy ammo.

Thanks for the info. I guess I thought most Texans could open carry handguns as well as long guns. I guess I have idealistic views of Texas - which admittedly come from reading Texas freepers’ posts.
