ISIS militants appear to behead abducted American journalist James Wright Foley in graphic video
NY Daily News ^ | 8/19/2014 | SASHA GOLDSTEIN

An American freelance photojournalist missing since being abducted in Syria some 22 months ago was apparently beheaded by an Islamic State militant in a graphic video released Tuesday.

Titled “A Message to America,” the gruesome clip shows a masked militant saw away at the neck of James Wright Foley, a 40-year-old New Hampshire native captured in Binesh, Syria on Thanksgiving Day 2012.

The family, on its "Free James Foley" Facebook page, has yet to confirm his death.

(snip down to Foley's statement)

“I call on my friends, family and loved ones to rise up against my real killers, the U.S. government. For what will happen to me is only a result of their complacency and criminality,” Foley reads as he kneels beside an armed militant, masked and dressed all in black. “My message to my beloved parents: Save me some dignity, and don’t accept some minor compensation for my death from the same people who effectively hit the last nail in my coffin with their recent aerial campaign in Iraq. I call on my brother John, who is a member of the U.S. Air Force: Think about what you are doing. Think about the lives you destroy, including those of your own family … I wish I could have the hope of freedom and seeing my family once again, but that ship has sailed. I guess all in all, I wish I wasn’t American.”

We had to wait until Allied troops crossed into Axis countries to understand the true nature of the atrocities they committed. When we found out, we were horrified. Today, we have to go no farther than Youtube to see evil...

...and yet we do not act decisively.

Who are we as a people?

Good post (#13). We ought to be concentrating on the crime, and destroying those responsible. It really doesn’t matter to me whether this poor soul was speaking in a monotone or not.

Foley was previously held captive in Libya and was eventually released. At the time, I couldn’t quite believe that he went to Syria not long after he was freed the first time. He was lucky the previously, but not this time.

Being tortured into submission is definitely not the same as Stockholm syndrome.

He didn’t just blame America. He blamed his own brother for his beheading.

Go back and read post #13. This poor man might have gone through 20 fake beheadings previously. Maybe one time he was told to blame the Pope, maybe one time he was told to blame the Wizard of Oz.

This thread has some of the worst blame-the-victim mentality that I have ever seen anywhere.

FWIW, when James Foley was held captive in Libya, he prayed the rosary on a daily basis:

Didn't say they are. But Stockholm Syndrome can result from long periods of abuse and brainwashing.

If I were a journalist in Syria or Iraq, I'd have to carry grenades to take the SOBs with me if they attempted to capture me.

Generally, I'd say satellite pictures of smoking craters and glass parking lots would be sufficient coverage of ISIS territories.

I don’t need to reread that. I’m not blaming the victim. If you think I am, try reading my post again.

Spot on.

In fact, in 2011 Mr. Foley credited his brother for inspiring him to go into embed journalism.

RE:
“While it may have been coerced, Foley’s voice is not the monotone that is associated with reading a statement under duress. Frankly, it sounds to me more like somebody who believed his words.”

Totally disagree...If you really listened his voice was breaking.

According to some ancient Jewish writings your job is not to go out singing a hymn. The Nazarine said that he had a revelation of the Malchut (kingdom) of G-d that would conquer the world. Remember “the gates of hell shall not be able to withstand it!”? What happened? What went wrong? Where’s the power? Christendom is crumbling before your very eyes. Her youth are drunk on the spirits of the age. Why? Do any of you think a Baptist or Evangelical vision is up to the task of defeating Islam? The son of Frances Schaeffer himself has all but lost his faith and is hiding behind some Eastern Orthodox Icons in Bulgaria. There is only one answer, and that is to rediscover the power of true biblical religion and that is the Power of Torah. That is the power that Yeshua was talking about. He preached repentance, and at that time Teshuvah (repentance) meant one thing: to return to Torah, to obey and observe it. As Moses said,”For it is your life.”

He that has an ear, let him hear: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you from being my priest. And seeing that you have forgotten the Law of your G-d, so to I will forget your children.” -Hosea 4:6

To me, he appeared to be reading a statement that he found absurd.

He probably knew his family would find it absurd too.

Many Americans have no idea America is at war with islamists. They talk a lot about beheadings, torture, we see it here, but heaven forbid, it’s not shown on tv or any of the paper press. Why not? Too graphic? They pay $10.00 or more to watch stuff like this in the movies. Why not in the alphabet press?

There is only ONE method of dealing with ISIS. Extermination.
They need to be hunted down and killed.
No prisoners. Just all ISIS followers dead.
If this isn’t done. Then they will continue perpetrating genocide against anyone they meet.

There is only one way of dealing with ISLAM. Eradicate it from the earth. No Mosques in the USA. None. Any Churches in Saudi Arabia? No. Okay, I get it. Now get the hell out of our Judeo-Christian country, and take your filthy ideas with you. We’ll turn your mosques into Churches and Synagogues where good, life affirming things are taught.

Is there any doubt that Islam is a religion of evil? Where is CAIR enlisting Muslims to fight this evil, let alone denouncing this evil? The clear direction of this - crucifixions of Christians, beheadings, etc. - is that Islam is at war with Christians and Jews. This is not a war between nations, but between peoples.

Too many Christians in America identify themselves as Americans first, and Christians second. Personally, I am a Christain with Jewish roots, then I am an American. There is enough Old Testament in me to stop turning the other cheek and defend my freedom by fighting Islam in my own way.

Of course Obama and liberals love the lie that Islam is a religion of peace.

What was the victim saying? Did the victim believe that his brother continued to be as naive about Islam has the victim himself may have once been before he was captured? Was he saying to his brother, why haven't you wised up and why are you not doing more to stop this scourge and insane rampage against humanity, even as you witness my extended captivity and now my beheading?
