WASHINGTON (AP) - Two influential NFL voices - including CBS lead analyst Phil Simms, who will handle Washington's Week 4 game - said Monday they likely won't use the term "Redskins" when discussing the franchise.
"My very first thought is it will be Washington the whole game," Simms told The Associated Press on Monday.
Simms will work the Thursday night package the network acquired this season and will have Giants-Redskins on Sept. 25. He isn't taking sides in the debate over whether Washington's nickname is offensive or racist. But he says he is sensitive to the complaints about the name, and his instincts now are to not use Redskins in his announcing.
"I never really thought about it, and then it came up and it made me think about it," Simms added. "There are a lot of things that can come up in a broadcast, and I am sensitive to this."
His broadcast partner, Jim Nantz, says it is "not my job to take a stance."
NBC's Tony Dungy, one of the most prominent voices in the league as a Super Bowl-winning coach and now as a studio commentator, plans to take the same route as Simms.

The real problems is that this kind of PC crap will never end. They won a few rounds and now they think they can win every new attempt at changing the culture. Sort of like feed a stray cat and you will have it forever. We have the PC radicals forever.
Fast forward ten years...
- Washington removed from the One-Dollar Bill
- Removing “Washington” from the name of the Nation’s capital and just calling it the “District of Columbia” (of course, then they’ll go after the ‘Columbia’ because of Christopher Columbus).
Give ‘em an inch and they will take a mile.
As much as I respect both Dungy and Simms, they’re refusing to do their jobs correctly. A small number of people are trying to stigmatize the word “Redskins” for political reasons, but there is no proof that most or even many American Indians have any problem with the term.
They should be fired for their inability to pronounce things correctly. It’s the only thing they have to do, and folks need jobs.
Will they now call them The Thin Skins?

They could call them the Skins but that could be racist towards nudists.

When the liberals get done with imposing political correctness on us we will be reduced to communicating with facial gestures and hand signals.
And some of those will be forbidden too.
The less Simms says the better.

Me too. But Dungy was in the doghouse because he wasn’t sufficiently worshipful toward the gay football player. He had to do something to appease the liberal gods.
Speaking of fruitcakes, I saw that the CA legislators made wise use of their time by deciding not to call them the Washington Redskins.
How about the Washington Politicians? Thats a name everyone would love!
