President Obama in Asbury Park, NJ on Tuesday: "So, Jersey, you’ve still got a long road ahead, but when you look out on this beach -- this beautiful beach here, even in the rain, it looks good. You look out over the horizon, you can count on the fact that you won’t be alone. Your fellow citizens will be there for you -- just like we’ll be there for folks in Breezy Point and Staten Island -- (applause) -- and obviously, we’re going to be there for the folks in Monroe [sic], Oklahoma, after the devastation of last week. (Applause.)...

They’re not playing ball. The IRS softball team has canceled their Friday game with Sen. John Cornyn’s staff, amid the still-evolving scandal of targeting conservative organizations. The game has not been rescheduled. By the way, the IRS’s team name? “The Cheetahs.” Cornyn (R-Texas) posted the cancellation announcement on Facebook Thursday morning:

<p>Argentine Jorge Bergoglio was elected pope on Wednesday and chose the papal name Francis, becoming first pontiff from the Americas and the first from outside Europe in more than a millennium.</p>
<p>A stunned-looking Bergoglio shyly waved to the crowd of tens of thousands of people who gathered in St. Peter's Square, marveling that the cardinals had had to look to "the end of the earth" to find a bishop of Rome.</p>

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Our journey is not complete until all of our children from the streets of Detroit to hills of Appalachia, to the twi-plains of Newtown know they're cared for and cherished and always safe from harm. That is our generation's task, to make these words, these rights, these values of life and liberty in the pursuit of happiness real for every American. Being true to our founding documents does not require us to agree on every contour of life. It does not mean that we all define liberty in exactly the same way, or follow the same, precise...

Astronomers have now discovered over 1,000 planets orbiting other stars, and right now these exoplanets all have boring, license-plate-like names, such as HD85512 and GJ 436 instead of endearing, "real" planet names that might offer hints of what that world could be like. And recall the recent extrapolation of how many habitable planets might be in the Milky Way? A team using the ESO's HARP's spectrograph determined there might be upwards of 160 billion worlds out there for us to find, and perhaps eventually name. How might we come up with that many names? Uwingu, a startup company that is...

Last Friday, GOP presidential challenger Mitt Romney disclosed his tax returns and health records. In particular, the release of the tax information was a pleasant surprise –released without pre-announcement or fanfare. Romney gave information that dates back to 1990 which ought to close Harry Reid’s mouth for a time .....–it would be absolutely wonderful if the “right” would get such a disclosed-documentary surprise from President Barack Obama. ...What are Americans on the “left” afraid of learning about Obama? Simple curiosity would demand that Obama’s academic records be released –let alone really wanting to know about the past of the man...

A 23-year-old Nebraska man walked into a court room in York County Monday afternoon as Tyler Gold -- and walked out as Tyrannosaurus Rex, the York News-Times reported. Gold said he wanted to change his name “because the (T-Rex designation) is cooler,” according to an official filing he made with court. “Also, as an entrepreneur, name recognition is important and the new name is more recognizable.” Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/05/08/nebraska-man-changes-name-to-tyrannosaurus-rex/?test=latestnews#ixzz1uKaMm6fn

The U.S. Navy announced Wednesday morning that it has named one of its new ships after Marine Sgt. Rafael Peralta, a San Diego native who died a hero in Iraq in 2004. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced the move, saying a new guided-missile destroyer will be named the USS Rafael Peralta. A Pentagon statement said Mabus named that ship and two other new destroyers after Navy and Marine Corps heroes whose actions occurred during different conflicts but "were united in their uncommon valor." Peralta was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross after using his body to shield fellow Marines from an...

“Circumcision and Name Both Say ‘Savior’” (Luke 2:21)Today is New Year’s Day, a day for looking forward to the year that lies ahead. It’s a day for plans and goals and New Year’s resolutions. “This is the year, finally, when I will get my weight under control, or when I will start exercising more regularly, or when I start being more faithful in my daily devotions.” All well and good. These can be good goals to have. January 1, 2012. This is also a day when we begin a new chapter in the life of our church. How is this...

A new law proposed by MK Zvulun Orlev (Bayit Yehudi), who is chairman of the Knesset Children's Rights Committee, would prevent parents from giving their children “weird” or strange names that other children were likely to make fun of. The law would forbid parents from naming their children with names that “hurt their welfare or their feelings.” The law, to be presented Sunday for the approval of the Ministerial Law Committee, would establish a “public names committee” which would include experts such as social workers, psychologists, and educators, that would confer with the relevant government ministries on “unacceptable” names that...

JEDDAH: Saudi tweeters have created a hashtag called IsmOmi (Arabic for “my mother’s name”) in an attempt to break a longstanding taboo that prevents Saudi men from mentioning the name of their mothers. The hashtag enables them to say their mother’s name and allows them to bypass a critical society. Hashtags are created by adding # to a “tweet” on Twitter. They are terms invented to add to tweets on a given subject and build a community of tweets or build toward a “trending topic.” Saudi tweeters see this as a way to express their love and gratitude for their...

Adolf Hitler is one of the most evil men to ever walk the face of the planet. He also happens to be a little boy in New Jersey. Adolf Hitler Campbell was taken away from his parents in 2009 because welfare officials said that his name was a form of abuse. And Adolf Hitler isn’t the only strange name in the Campbell family. Heath and Deborah Campbell named their daughter JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell. But is an offensive name reason enough to divide a family? Here’s a news report filmed shortly after Adolf Hitler was taken away from his parents....

New secret recordings obtained by CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson show ATF agent Hope MacAllister, who we have not yet heard from throughout this investigation, speaking with Lone Wolf Trading Company owner Andre Howard and expressing concern about ATF whistleblower John Dodson, the ATF agent who exposed the scandal by coming forward with information about Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry's death in March. In the recording, MacAllister and Howard sound panicked, not only about Dodson, but about Senator Charles Grassley and about how Attorney General Eric Holder would respond to exposed scandal. The following audio doesn't prove Eric Holder knew...

Earlier today, a grand jury convicted former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, on 17 of 20 counts of corruption. 11 of of the guilty verdicts related to attempts to profit from the "sale" of the U.S. Senate seat Barack Obama vacated when he became president. At USA Today's On Deadline blog (as of its 5:33 p.m. update), Michael Winter failed to identify Blagojevich or any other politician involved as a Democrat. Neither did the video found at Winter's article. This is not surprising, because the video came from the "see no evil Democrat" Associated Press.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has removed his name from a list of patrons of the UK branch of the Jewish National Fund - and pro-Palestinian activists have taken credit for the move. Cameron's decision to drop his link with the charity was explained by his office as simply having to do with "time constraints." In an e-mail, Downing Street reiterated the explanation without going into details. "The Prime Minister stepped down from a number of charities - including the JNF," the office wrote. Downing Street declined to comment on the fact that the Stop the JNF Campaign has actively...

Oregon residents and news followers nationwide can be forgiven for shaking their heads over the Associated Press's latest item on the misadventures of Congressman David Wu. All of a sudden he's apparently not a Democrat -- well, at least he's not identified as such by the wire service's Jonathan J. Cooper. Former sailors, soldiers and Marines are expressing outrage at Navy Secretary Ray Mabus’s decision to name a naval warship after recently deceased Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha. The opposition is largely a function of Murtha’s actions and comments during his final years. Murtha became known as one of the most vocal opponents of the war in Iraq — despite voting in 2002 for the resolution that authorized the use of force against Saddam Hussein. In 2005 he declared the war unwinnable, and pushed a resolution to get the troops out of the country. “The U.S. cannot accomplish anything further in...

I am trying to think of a good name for a dog, just acquired from the pound. He's been neutered, seems to be a bit less than one year old. He's part blue heeler and part black lab with ears that do not seem to be of either of those two breeds. He's joining the alpha male guard dog and the little mama dog who are both getting up there in years. If anyone has any good suggestions for naming him, I'd appreciate it.

One of the most chilling phenomena of our time is the resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe. The dirty work, the threats and violence that are causing Jews to leave Europe, is carried out more or less exclusively by young Muslim immigrants. But implicit sanction for anti-Semitism comes straight from the top, as top European political, business and social leaders make little effort to hide their contempt for Jews. The most recent case is that of Karel De Gucht, the European trade commissioner. On Thursday he gave an interview to a Belgian radio station, in the course of which he volunteered...

Officials had blocked Sex Fruit, Keenan Got Lucy and Yeah Detroit, he said, but Number 16 Bus Shelter, Violence and Midnight Chardonnay had been allowed. One mother wanted to name her child O.crnia using text language, but was later persuaded to use Oceania,...

Everything they do is foreign to me, they push for Cordova Mosques next to 9/11. The support Mexico over the State of Arizona, they push for the International Courts and the UN whether it be the LOST Treaty, WTO, or IMF. They think that International Law should be taken into account when deciding Supreme Court cases. They run up $1.5 Trillion of Debt per year to put the Chinese, Japanese, and any other country that can lend any money to us over our Economic future. The Foreign Government Party seems appropriate.

As part of his public reconciliation with Israel, Obama for the first time in the almost 18 months since he became president just gave an interview to an Israeli TV station (this from the same American president who gave his first interview in office to Al-Arabiya — remember that ?). Speaking Wednesday to Israel’s Channel 2 News, Obama struck a friendly tone. And yet, as if he can’t quite help himself, out comes this astonishingly crude remark. As reported in the New York Times, he was asked about “the anxiety of many Israelis who feel that he does not have...

This is for the 81% of Americans who don't know who Elena Kagan is. A new C-SPAN poll of 1,512 voters finds far more ignorance about this year's Barack Obama choice for the Supreme Court than last year's of Sonia Sotomayor. Kagan's Senate confirmation hearings start later today before the Judiciary Committee and national TV cameras. Only 19% could name Kagan, who was Obama's solicitor general, less than half the 43% who could name Sotomayor at the start of her confirmation. From a sales point of view, voter ignorance doesn't much matter on this issue, unless you're a senator. And...

ORLANDO -- Is it too soon to name a road after President Barack Obama? A new road being built through Orlando will have his name. Roads in Orlando honor some of our greatest presidents, from Washington to Jefferson and now Obama. On Friday, Orlando leaders made President Barack Obama Parkway the first road under construction in the nation named after our 44th President, and surely one of the few in history to be named after a sitting president in his first term. "I think it’s great if people want to support their presidential candidate, but I think it's a little...

The name "Malia" moved up 153 spots to No. 192. Meanwhile, "Sasha," the name of the Obamas' younger daughter, came in at No. 261 - having moved up 101 spots. There was no bounce for the first lady: The name "Michelle"...

Rhode Islanders may get a chance to shorten the state's longest-in-the-nation formal name over its ties to colonial slavery. Officially, Rhode Island is called the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. But the House Judiciary Committee approved a resolution Tuesday that would allow residents to vote next year on whether to drop the words "Providence Plantations" from that name. The issue now heads for a House floor vote. Supporters say "Providence Plantations" conjures painful images of colonial slavery. Rhode Island merchants grew wealthy off the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

TAOS, N.M. – Larry Whitten marched into this northern New Mexico town in late July on a mission: resurrect a failing hotel. The tough-talking former Marine immediately laid down some new rules. Among them, he forbade the Hispanic workers at the run-down, Southwestern adobe-style hotel from speaking Spanish in his presence (he thought they'd be talking about him), and ordered some to Anglicize their names. No more Martin (Mahr-TEEN). It was plain-old Martin. No more Marcos. Now it would be Mark. Whitten's management style had worked for him as he's turned around other distressed hotels he bought in recent years...

President Barack Obama's name was spelt wrongly in an official release from the White House. Following President Obama's trip to Russia, an official release touting the agreement between the US president and President Dmitry Medvedev over how to craft a follow-up to the START arms reduction treaty was put out. But the White House claimed the document had been signed by one "Barak Obama" - missing the 'c' from his first name. Russian and American negotiators salvaged the summit by agreeing the text of a preliminary deal on nuclear disarmament, deflecting fears that the most important element of Mr Obama's...

Teachers Spot Trouble In A Name Can teachers really predict behaviour from a name? Teachers think they can tell which pupils are likely to play up by looking at their names, a survey suggests. The poll of 3,000 teachers found more than one in three expected pupils with certain names to be more disruptive. Pupils called Callum, Connor, Jack, Chelsea, Courtney and Chardonnay were among some of the ones to watch. The online survey by parenting club Bounty.com found 49% of UK teachers made assumptions about a child when they first looked down the register. But it is not all...

The Obama administration has failed to name an envoy for monitoring and combating anti-Semitism around the world as mandated by US law since the previous ambassador was relieved of his duties at the start of the president's term more than six months ago, officials said Thursday. The failure to name a new envoy for the post raises questions about the importance the new administration attaches to the fight against anti-Semitism, said Rafael Medoff, director of the Washington DC-based David S. BERLIN: Germany is renowned for fighting inflation, but the battle extends beyond money and into the realm of names. In a split decision on Tuesday, the German Constitutional Court upheld a ban on married people combining already-hyphenated names, forbidding last names of three parts or more. It was not the first time the court was forced to weigh in on the subject of names, which are regulated start to finish, fore to family, in Germany. This time, it was a Munich couple who decided to challenge the constitutionality of a 1993 rule limiting the names of married people to a...
