Why Does AP Refer to Michael Brown as ‘Teen’ Despite Style Guide?
Mediaite ^ | 18 Aug 2014 | Eddie Scarry

The Associated Press Stylebook states that in reports referring to a person’s age, the figure for the age number should be used. It also states that reports should “use man or woman for individuals 18 and older.”

Why, then, are AP reports on the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown solely referring to him as a “teen” and “teenager”? ADVERTISEMENT

“Don’t know’ if Missouri teen shot with hands up,” reads one AP headline from Monday. “County autopsy: Unarmed teen shot 6 to 8 times,” reads another.

And an excerpt from yet another AP story, emphasis added: “Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon lifted a curfew but ordered the National Guard to step in to help restore order. Holder over the weekend ordered a federal medical examiner to perform a third autopsy on the teenager, Michael Brown.”

What’s happening here?

One possibility: Referring to Brown as a “teen” and “teenager” harkens back to Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old black Florida teen who was also shot dead while unarmed. Like Brown’s shooting, that was an emotionally and racially charged event, which the media pored over for months.

Have the emotional similarities moved the AP to disregard its own guidelines?..............Who knows?

The Style Guide clearly stipulates that Agenda trumps guidelines.

Because they found out that he never registered to vote?

I don’t think I have ever read or heard his name mentioned absent the word “unarmed”.

They usually manage to get in “soon to start college” and of course “teen”.

I’d like to know why someone who works to become a “journalist” decides not to report the truth.

Because he was just a little boy buying gumdrops and lemonade from a convenience store when he was gunned down like a rabid dog by a white hispanic with a kalashnikov and a swastika tattoo.

Oh. Sorry.

That was the narrative the last time round.

Nevermind.

Keep in mind, if Brown had been a white kid, this story would not have made the news outside of his small town. Now, he is a “murdered” international celebrity.

To a journalist, the truth is what is fair and right. It has nothing to do with fact.

Because there’s a secret website where ‘journalists’ go to get their marching orders from the White House Disinformation Office.

High unemployment in record numbers among blacks?

Zero motivation for them to vote in November?

Create a crisis like we did with Zimmerman. That’ll bring them to the polls!

St. Trayvon the perp. Vilify the shooter acting in self defense.

Teen

Unarmed

Troubled but has a bright future

Don’t mention rap or drugs or juvenile record (it’s under seal still)

Create the biggest lie we can sell and the MSM will get it out hard and fast. The original narrative will hold among blacks who will discount future actual fact revelations to be “propaganda” or outright lies.

Move quickly to go to the grand jury and indict the patsy / self defense guy.

Tell blacks in November the only way to fight racial inequality like this is.... vote for Democrats.

Rinse and repeat.

Because “teen” has a connotation of youthful innocence, and most people tend to connect “teen” with the younger end of 13 to 19.

According to the style guide at this site “teen” means “feral black thug.” It is the same as “Amish.”

Most (nearly all?) the media see their job as indoctrinating the public in radical leftist or communist ideas. Actually, brain washing is not too strong a word to describe what they do.

The mainstream media has incited the rioting/looting. They are 99% responsible for what is happening in Furgeson, MO. They should be ashamed of themselves - but they aren’t. Their “livelihood” depends upon promoting their racist agenda.

Interesting.

I've also noticed that the officer is never referred to as "white".

At least not in the beginning. I've pretty much changed the channel or turned the TV off whenever this story comes up but up till that time I don't think the officer was ever identified as white.

It seems like it's just assumed anymore.
