A quarantine centre for suspected Ebola patients in the Liberian capital Monrovia has been attacked and looted by protesters, police say.

The incident happened in the densely populated West Point township on Saturday evening.

At least 20 patients who were being monitored for signs of the illness have left the centre.

Officials said blood-stained bedding looted from the centre posed a serious infection risk.

A senior police officer said blood-stained mattresses, beddings and medical equipment were taken from the centre.

"This is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in my life", he said.

“attacked and looted”
Seems I heard the same words recently, applied to a town in Missouri.
Wonder what the common denominator is.

Why pay a rogue government through the nose for biohazard weapons when you can just go out and pick it up yourself?

Exactly. Pay some suicidal jihadist and his family to acquire the virus for you and then import it into the states.

why would anyone ‘loot’ a quarantine area?? only one reason.

to obtain materials for a bioweapon

if you can get a crowd worked up to cover your intentions, all the better.

I’m working on a theory. Wish I could find a Federal grant to fund my research on the subject - I think a million would do.

I could understand resentment about these centers. After all, quarantine is medical prison. But, you have to be a special kind of stupid to loot blood-stained sheets.

I think we have some protestors we could ship to Liberia to help with their Ebola protests. How smart is it for protestors to invade a quarantine area? Interesting.

The same Ferguson morons would do the same here. Take that as a lesson learned and be prepared for the same stupidity coming soon to a quarantine center near you.

Yet another report...

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Many of those people do not believe that Ebola is real. It looks a lot like malaria, and they know that malaria is not contagious. In addition, they see their sick relative go into the hospital, and a wrapped corpse comes out that they are not allowed to approach or touch, in complete violation of their customs. So they think the doctors are killing their relatives and doing all kinds of horrid things to the bodies, like stealing their organs (among other stories).

Remember, many of these people are illiterate. They interpret the situation in a manner consistent with their education and culture.

I hate to say it, but the same kind of muddled thinking is not limited to Africa. I often see the same displayed here on FR—people who are convinced that illicit drugs are perfectly harmless, or who avoid vaccines, or who consume vitamins by the handful, to name a few examples. They may be more educated, but their thinking is just as muddled.
