These geniuses at WHO are going to HAVE to reverse this at some point in the growing outbreak, whether that's days from now or weeks from now, but it won't be more than that.

Why can't they see the danger, especially given that -- as they admitted themselves a day or two ago -- the published figures for the outbreak are "vastly underestimated" and do not represent the true scope of the problem, by anything from a factor of 2 to a factor of 5 depending on whom you ask.

Unbelievable. They're nothing but politicians, trying to be politically correct.

As another FReeper pointed out a couple days ago, a politician is someone who only makes a difficult, scientifically correct decision ONLY AFTER the consequences of NOT making the decision have already become manifest.

This continued lack of good guidance from WHO is political, not scientific.

Correction - the original posting on the WHO site was Aug 14, not Aug 13. It is still considered their “Current Position” as of today (Aug 18).

Low Risk?

When I ask a lady out on a date and she laughs at me, I think, HEY
I made her smile, I have a chance!

It all depends on how far the date has proceeded when she laughs at you.

Early in the date, you're probably right.

Later on, when it's gotten serious, maybe not so much. :)

“Low risk, can be spread like a cold!”
21 days later: zombocalypse.

Wow, normally your name has to be Kennedy, Clinton, or Obama to tell those kind of whoppers with a straight face.

Just be very careful in the bathroom. Those pesky body fluids. By the way, how are they removed from the airplane??

They aren’t.
That’s why those “nude flights” are so gross.

WHO is worse than having no authority at all.
The only countries and airlines taking effective precautions are the ones that are ignoring WHO.

“Unbelievable. They’re nothing but politicians, trying to be politically correct.”

It’s worse than that. Living as they do on grants and contracts, they are SERVANTS of Western politicians. Why does WHO oppose DDT?

I rest my case.

So there'll be plenty of birds to get chopped up in their wind farms?

Is shoveling up the dead birds a green job?

wow. that just goes in the face of reason. they are covering for someone or trying to quell panic

from the CDC... last week (they may be changing their story)

1. ebola is spread thru contact with infected tissues/surfaces
2. ebola is spread thru direct contact with infected blood
3. ebola is spread thru close proximity to an infected person (3 feet)
4. ebola is spread thru prolonged exposure to infected air

#4 would be exactly like an airplane

someone wants to spread this

Total bull$h!t. The risk is high if an infected person is in the same plane as you. You won’t know who it is. You have no choice but to use the same facilities as that person. Remember, it’s transmitted by body fluids. Airplane toilets are used by all. Enough said.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

5. Ebola is spread when an infected patient is introduced to a new area and crashes and bleeds out all over the people there.

Even if there were no risk to their fellow travelers on the actual airplane flight that got them there.

Untrue.

All plagues have basically the same history. Right now, we are in the beginning of the population movement phase (this always happens as people start to run).

The erection of a physical barrier to movement (a "cordon sanitaire") is always delayed, because a) the news about the hot zone is delayed, b) people are slow to believe, and c) the cordon consigns the uninfected within it to a horrible death they might otherwise avoid.

The guilt sickness that is killing the whites is making all this worse, of course, but the basic outline would happen in any case - because it always has.
