Missouri Governor Jay Nixon disturbed by 'over-militarization' of police in Ferguson

"Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said he was 'thunderstruck' by images he saw of police forces responding to protests in Ferguson after the shooting of teenager Michael Brown as the midnight to 5am curfew enters its second night.

Nixon, speaking to ABC News' Martha Raddatz on This Week on Sunday, said the sight of police in riot gear with armored tanks led to his decision to replace the local police force with highway patrol.

The measure had a calming effect at first, but last night saw one man shot and seven arrested after resisting the curfew order. A picture has emerged of the young man lying wounded on the ground.

'All of us were thunderstruck by the pictures we saw,' Nixon said."

I’m all for it; the sooner everyone loses their illusions, the easier it will be on us to end up bringing more over into the adulthood. Even the holdovers from the Sixties hippies are seeing them as they are for once in their sorry lives.

You only need to look at Boston or the people cheering on the police suspending the Constitution in Ferguson to know that many will not lose their illusion, at least not until it's too late.

As I said, police that don't respect the 1st Amendment will damn sure not respect the 2nd Amendment, or any other part of the Constitution. These are scary times we are living in.

I know it is late, but in 2009, they shut down the city of Pittsburgh for the G20. I live in Pgh. I drove past it. They used the LRAD. There were anarchists and Marxists here causing lots of problems. It was like a mini warzone. There was literally chain link fencing around large sections of the downtown. It looked like something from a dystopian futuristic movie.
