Jay Nixon: Ferguson robbery video had an "incendiary effect" (Channels Sharpton & Crump)

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon said Sunday that the Ferguson, Mo., police department's release of a surveillance video showing a man resembling Michael Brown committing a robbery at a convenience store produced a negative reaction in the ongoing unrest over the shooting of the 18-year-old black teenager.

"I think it had an incendiary effect," Nixon said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation." "When you release pictures and you clearly are attempting to besmirch a victim of a shooting, shot down in his own street, a young man, and at the same time you're releasing information...to tarnish him, then properly, there was a lot of folks that were concerned about that, and I do think it flamed it back up and has caused us to have to deal with some of that."

Nixon said his office did not know the video was going to be released. CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reported Saturday that federal authorities opposed the release of the video.

The clashes between protesters and police have continued for nearly a week since Brown was shot by Darren Wilson, a white officer, in the mostly-black suburb of St. Louis. Nixon declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew Saturday that was disrupted early Sunday morning when some people refused to disperse.

The confrontation was ended about an hour after the curfew, and Nixon said, "we feel much better" this morning. He said the protesters who have refused to obey the curfew were not locals.

"The thousands of folks there, certainly there were seven folks detained and had to be arrested, but most of those folks weren't directly from the area. So we're hopeful that we're making progress. I think it's right for people to grieve. I think it's right for people to speak," he said....

I suggest that it will have the opposite effect.

Now that we know that Michael wasn’t the sweet little innocent child that was being pushed. That he might have actually been a thug.

And so what are they rioting for — a possible thug?

Well we know about the strong arm thug robbery, the deceased “yoot” committed. Now the public should be made aware o his entire criminal record.

Where is their congregation? Are they even ordained ministers recognized by any known denomination????

That's racissss...you're trying to apply white cultural standards to a unique culture that allows anybody to use the title while stepping into a pulpit to call out the way white men hold back the black man and how there ought to be reparations. /s

The release of the video was dead on, pardon the pun.

It portrayed the victim’s true as a drug soaked 300 pound man who stole from a store ,a and assaulted a little Indian guy.

The lefts narrative was so upset, it even had Obama backpeddling.

Derren Wilson was assaulted by Brown, and he was shot as a result of it.

The public deserves to know the result of the toxology report ordered in the county’s autopsy, but the feds have ordered a second autopsy and they will likely seal the results from both so the public will not know of the drug levels in Brown’s blood, thus extending the lefts “execution” narrative to cause more rioting and extend the crisis ad infinitum so they can exploit it.

Obama and Holder are bad, bad men, and soon we will see them at their very worst.

You bet they should have released that film. The local police should do as much of that as possible with other information as well, because the feds will spin the truth away.

With both Reverend Sharpton and Reverend Jackson, I always wonder where their church is. Where is their congregation? Are they even ordained ministers recognized by any known denomination????

Neither Al or Jesse officially graduated from seminary school. Jesse came the closest but did not finish. He was awarded his MDiv based on the schoolwork he'd done and his "experience". To my knowledge he has never pastored a church.

Al was ordained as a minister around the age of 10. He did apparently preach sermons at a very early age. He has not attended seminary school. There is no public record of him ever pastoring a church either.

I have never heard either of them offer a gospel message or presentation of the gospel.

All I've ever heard them "preach" is on racism and generally that whites hate blacks. Oh, and shaking down corporations is also on the agenda.

Nothing pisses the Gibs-Me-Dats and their enablers more than telling the truth about their feral spawn.

I’d say that what we saw in the video was Big Mike’s reputation. What got tarnished was the story of how he was a black Hoss Cartwright who got hassled and then shot by a cop while he was jaywalking on his way to his grammy’s house. I guess you could call that an inconvenient truth.

"When you release pictures and you clearly are attempting to besmirch a victim of a shooting . . .

Every time an "unarmed teen" (UT) is shot, it's disappointingly easy to "besmirch the victim". Every time, the UT is a thug who has recently initiated violence against someone smaller. Every time, the UT is a thief. Every time, the UT is the sort of person that those who follow the law are glad they will never have to meet again. Any group that pretends to be offended by releasing facts that "besmirch a victim" is not being honest. They are lying in order to profit from yet another UT thug's death.

I'm sorry that this UT is dead, but my sorrow is primarily directed at the parents and the culture that turned him into the sort of predator that decent people are glad to be rid of. It's a sad waste of potential that seems far too common among urban youth of the UT type.

Isn't that (UT) pronounced "Yoot" or "Yute"?

Of course it had an incendiary effect. “You mean a bro got shot for lifting a box of cigarillos? That would make anybody mad enough to loot.” /S

Proof and the truth are considered “incendiary”.

This whole never ending episode is a disgrace to this country. The disgrace is that people who bully and rob people are “gentle giants”, people who loot and burn down stores are coddled and allowed to keep their booty. We have a DOJ and a disgusting agitator for president who are trying to manufacture an outcome instead of seeking the truth and real justice.

There is no real reason for these ignorant protests to go on day after day. It is all manufactured outrage at this point that covers lawlessness.

It had the “truth” effect. His daddy is wearing a t-shirt with the kids baby picture on it.

Who would name their newborn son Unarmedblackteenager Mike Brown? I want to see the birth certificate. Unarmedblackteenager Mike Brown was shot down in the prime of his life on his own street. He was probably returning from choir practice. He was dreaming about attending college next week to get a Phd in physics.
Governor Nixon believes that releasing the video has an “incendiary effect.” Does he believe that canonizing him has an “incendiary effect?” “Besmirching the victim” might actually give a more accurate picture of what actually happened. Apparently Brown was not a choirboy.
Now we have Captain Ron Johnson in charge. I particularly liked the photo of him flashing the Blood’s gang sign. You know you are in good hands. The looting should stop. After all the liquor stores are now empty.
