One of the major factors contributing to the stressful environment for young black males (and other minority youth) continues to be the persistent pattern of police harassment, misconduct and brutality toward these youth. As Michelle Alexander has noted in her recent book, "The New Jim Crow," the United States has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world; this seems to be a deliberate strategy to deal with black males who are frequently viewed as a threat to the social order.

My town went from a fairly prosperous lower middle class burg to nearly 80% low-income-welfare-queen-pill-poppin'-dope-smokers in just over a decade. Yet our town is 99.99% white. And we are not the exception either.
Now everyone around here is either on some gub'ment program or trying to get on one or trying to move out of here.
If some kid got gunned down in the street and was not armed no matter if he was rushing the cops or not no matter if it was a righteous shoot or not there would be hell to pay. Our only consolation is that if they started burning buildings they would do us a favor because most are just sitting empty and running down and no one has the money to fix them up being no viable business is going to open up here.
It’s an irony for the left. Socialist utopians want(ed) to abort Blacks, non-Whites and White ethnics out of existence, but yet they can’t kill too many of them, because they need their votes as adults to hold onto power.

That is the absolute truth.When they were born,every one of these gangbanger types had the potential to be a decent human being.Government policies stole that life from them.

St. Louis citizens (and I was one for years) learned the real reason for Ferguson years ago. It was called Pruitt-Igoe and it started all this with the removal of the father in order for the mother to get welfare.
For some reason that darn local corner store in Ferguson was always running out of Swisher Sweets and was slow in restocking.
The first group in line for that "rescue" would be whites, who bear the costs of these repeated failures. The problem is, there is no RESCUE doing the same old things that have failed over and over again!
This is NOT a problem that is going to be solved by money, or by the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.
I am amused at some of info being put out. For example Brown was reported as being ‘college bound’. Another news narrative said he was in a trade school of some kind. Now I am an old (WWII) vet who went to ‘college’ on the GI bill. Then a college was not a ‘trade school’. Of course allowing for changing times I suppose all eggs are just eggs.
Rescue them? Just lock them all into a big stadium and give them all the alcohol, weed, crack, meth, molly, etc... that they want. Then throw in some spears and knives and let nature take it’s course.

The fact is we could bankrupt ourselves trying to rescue these people and have NOTHING to show for it. No amount of $$ will fix the sickness—the cure must come from within.
For a “distinguished” professor who has supposedly devoted her life to this problem, she displays a stunning lack of critical thinking and context.
