The St. Louis County Police Association (SLCPA) deplores yesterdays decision by Gov. Jay Nixon to remove the St. Louis County Police Department from command authority in the evolving situation occurring in Ferguson.
The SLCPA fully supports Chief of Police Jon Belmar, as well as the men and women of our department, in the decisions made to control the unlawful and often chaotic moments of the previous days.
Gov. Nixons decision was motivated by local and national political pressure. His decision not only did not improve public safety but put officers lives in danger. Our officers were ordered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) not to deploy with personal protective equipment such as helmets and shields. Subsequently, last night, an officer was assaulted when a thrown brick struck his person. Thankfully, the officer was not seriously injured. It is of note that several patrol vehicles were damaged by thrown debris, a news photographer was assaulted, a McDonalds was nearly burglarized, and a person showed up at Christian Northeast Hospital after being shot in the protest area. All of this occurred last night after control was relinquished to the MSHP.
The SLCPA stands by the rank and file Troopers of the MSHP. Their leadership, however, is another matter. Allowing hundreds of people to shut down a major thoroughfare, some of whom were firing bullets from moving vehicles, assaulting innocent bystanders, and more wouldnt be tolerated in any other day. As Police Officers were committed to upholding everyones right to peacefully protest. However, when a misguided minority of that group chooses to assault their fellow neighbors, assault police officers, damages property, and inflame unrest, this department should and must take a stand against that type of activity.
Our members who were deployed last night informed the Executive Board of this Association that the MSHP Command had been given orders to not respond to calls for service within the protest area. If this is true the citizens of Ferguson should be outraged.
The SLCPA stands by the fine men and women of this department.

Got to make big crisis to hide the signing of commie bills.
Yeah, now the officers are standing down while the looting is going on.
How soon before officers join the looters like they did in NOLA after Hurricane Katrina??
Now we’ve got the MEDIA broadcasting Officer Wilson’s home address with cameras set up outside.
Of course they do. If you watched that press conference it was clear The Governor was dealing with idiots with the express purpose of letting the idiots think they were in charge. But he’s a Democrat so he’s got to treat the race whores like they have legit points.
I caught just a few seconds of an interview of the Black guy who is in charge of the state police in Ferguson.
As near as I could tell he basically said they were not going to enforce the law. Instead they were going to make suggestions to the rioters, looters etc.
Good for them. I’m impressed.
The governor resorted to Nixonian tactics.
Sound familiar?
Given that they're white, never.
Lock and load. This will. It turn out well.
“after being shot in the protest area”
Oh, NO. Not the protest area, that’s the most painful part of the body!
Now picture this happening on a larger scale.
That's what Obama and Holder want.
Chilling.
Since when do County and Municipal Police abandon their chain of command and take orders from Staties?
Apparently when the governor orders them to stand down. I have no substantive answer other than that. In Michigan they couldn’t get away with this. The county sheriff in Michigan is an elected official. the governor could offer state resources but no way could he order county law enforcement to stand down.

“As near as I could tell he basically said they were not going to enforce the law. Instead they were going to make suggestions to the rioters, looters etc.”
That’s what he said at first when it was all Kumbaya.
After last night he said there is now a curfew and they will address rioting or looting just like the normal PD would, with tear gas and force etc...
Reality. It’s real.
Anybody here see any possible similarities between Jerome Cavanaugh and Jay Nixon?
Jerome Cavanaugh was mayor of Detroit in 1967 when riots broke and and police ‘restraint’ was the decided policy when the riots got out of hand ...
We know what happened in Detroit ... have these ppl learned anything from history?
PS the state police sometime come in and instead of trying to assist local and county agencies try to take over cases. In most cases the local and county cops tell them to take a hike. Michigan law states local and county agencies have primary jurisdiction.

He said he was not going to enforce the curfew but only make suggestions. If the rioters refused they would not use force on them but try to reason with them.
Maybe he has changed since but that is what he said earlier today.
Nixon has imposed a curfew. He's not as dumb as he looks.
” and a person showed up at Christian Northeast Hospital after being shot in the protest area.”
What part of the body is the protest area? I am so behind the times. Shot in the butt, maybe?
