What I did after police killed my son
Politico ^ | 8-15-14 | Michael Bell

After police in Kenosha, Wis., shot my 21-year-old son to death outside his house ten years ago — and then immediately cleared themselves of all wrongdoing — an African-American man approached me and said: “If they can shoot a white boy like a dog, imagine what we’ve been going through.”

I could imagine it all too easily, just as the rest of the country has been seeing it all too clearly in the terrible images coming from Ferguson, Mo., in the aftermath of the killing of Michael Brown. On Friday, after a week of angry protests, the police in Ferguson finally identified the officer implicated in Brown's shooting, although the circumstances still remain unclear.

I have known the name of the policeman who killed my son, Michael, for ten years. And he is still working on the force in Kenosha.

There are TWO pages. Most people linked to page 2. This should take you to page 1. If not, you can get to page 1 at the end of the article.

Hetty_Fauxvert, when I lived in Santa Rosa’s West End a few years back, a SWAT team marched into my house with their weapons drawn and pointed at my wife and children.

Geez . . . wow, so glad your wife and kinder were all okay!! I just wonder if that idiot Gelhaus was there. Was this the Roseland area? Sheriff’s dept. or city police?

Geez louise. Well, as a result of this Lopez case, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies will now (finally!!) be wearing cameras. So that’s at least something. I’m not sure if Santa Rosa city police have that or not.

Thank God you have no 21 year old testosterone laden sons or nephews who've made the mistake of having too much to drink....

So you're saying that it is impossible for me to have any sons or nephews who have been, ahem, "overserved" - just because none of them would fit into the category of the 0.00001% who are stupid enough to try to take someone's sidearm?

What you do when you are drunk reveals your character in a lot of ways.

In my experience drunks don’t know WTF they’re doing. That’s why they are arrested @ .08%. If someone you know is @ .23% they wouldn’t know their @$$ from their elbow and wouldn’t remember what they did the previous evening. It’s not stupidity.

What you do when you’re drunk reveals what you do when you’re drunk and whether or not you should drink. The man who makes the same decisions @ .15% BAC as opposed to sober doesn’t exist....
