What I did after police killed my son
Politico ^ | 8-15-14 | Michael Bell

Posted on 08/16/2014 11:19:26 AM PDT by yldstrk

After police in Kenosha, Wis., shot my 21-year-old son to death outside his house ten years ago — and then immediately cleared themselves of all wrongdoing — an African-American man approached me and said: “If they can shoot a white boy like a dog, imagine what we’ve been going through.”

I could imagine it all too easily, just as the rest of the country has been seeing it all too clearly in the terrible images coming from Ferguson, Mo., in the aftermath of the killing of Michael Brown. On Friday, after a week of angry protests, the police in Ferguson finally identified the officer implicated in Brown's shooting, although the circumstances still remain unclear.

I have known the name of the policeman who killed my son, Michael, for ten years. And he is still working on the force in Kenosha.

All the facts in the Michael Brown case are not yet known to the general public so it is a little premature to convict the LEO and confer sainthood on Michael Brown.

The evidence in a shooting is presented to a Grand Jury, they are the ones who say ‘yay’ or ‘nay.’

angry protests

"Angry protests" my azz. These people were just waiting for an excuse to loot and steal. Because it's the exact same reaction they have to every out-of-the-way occurrence, including a hurricane.

They received a $1.75 million in a wrongful death settlement, and they got the law changed in Wisconsin on how investigations are done on the police.

I also wonder what he means by his son being “slightly intoxicated.” Was he over the limit, or not?

One thing missing from the story....why was the son fighting with police in first place? As we have learned from Trayvon, Mike Brown and others, just as it is best not to believe everything a cop says...its also good to not to always believe “my baby was a saint” from parents. Going to do some research.

Nice article...nice to see someone that did something constructive with his grief and the wrongful death settlement he got for a trigger happy cop killing his son ...

Kudos to Wisconsin legislature for doing the right thing in holding the police accountable...

Yeah, it helps to read the article before commenting...

Police always clear themselves.

If this is true, it sure looks that way in Wisconsin:

In 129 years since police and fire commissions were created in the state of Wisconsin, we could not find a single ruling by a police department, an inquest or a police commission that a shooting was unjustified.

So Michael Bell was suspected of drunk driving, refused multiple police orders, fought with 3 cops, was tasered four times but still kept fighting. As the fight moved to the side of the car, one of the officers struggling with Bell felt his gun being pulled and screamed “he has my gun!” at which point another officer shot Bell.

The officer who shot him later commited suicide because of the stress.

THATS the “murder” of innocent and unarmed Michael Bell?

BS.

It was a tragic mistake brought on by Bell’s actions.

How is shooting a man fighting with 3 cops, who had already been tasered 4 times, after your partner yells-”He has my gun!”equal a trigger happy cop?
