is it going to be a typical 'Republican' Congress, with business as usual, and the real structural reforms needed to be ignored again?

Agreed. We're not there yet. I believe the fight to make the Republican Party truly conservative will only happen in increments. If you look at who we were VERY willing to put up with in 1980 (Weicker, Lugar, Heinz, Packwood, Kassebaum, Percy, Big Jim Thompson, Michel, Howard Baker, etc.), progress has been made. The SS RINO is taking on water, and when it capsizes, it will be very sudden. Think of party switches in both directions when there was benefit to be had (Boll Weevils under Reagan, Jeffords and Spectre later with the Senate majority in the balance). When we have enough clout, we will have good guys doing the right thing, and fear of voter/good guy retribution keeping the opportunists and sociopaths in line.

Even if Lamar Alexander started spouting the principles of the Constitution Party with real plans, it doesn't matter. He's still Lamar Alexander. When George Lyin' Ryan ran for Governor against Pro-Life/Pro-gun Dem Poshard he lied to the Pro-lifers who are generally inclined to vote Republican if given enough reason. It made the difference in the election, and Ryan went on to veto an anti-partial birth abortion bill. Even after he was elected, he pushed for doubling the car registration fee to fund $12 billion in road work, with the tolls removed as comepensation. Well, two out of three weren't bad. Ultimately, NEW tolls (at double cost) were built for the new iPass setup.

A prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.

If I see the 'ham sandwich' meme posted even ONE more time, I think I'll just puke.

Senator Ted Cruz stands head and shoulders above everyone else. The only other possible candidates with his principled conservative stature and fighting spirit are Governor Sarah Palin, Senator Mike Lee, and Senator Sessions.

Bump THAT!

I am having a hard time calculating how the RATS expect to gain from this. What do you think they’re planning to net from it?

Remember that liberals aren't analytical creatures. Their higher thought processes are subservient to their emotions and feelings. Logic and simple reasoning are mere products of happenstance, where they're concerned.

Ergo, they truly believe that attacking Governor Perry like this, will actually wound (or even kill) him, politically.

Reality-based deduction isn't one of the left's skill sets.

Cruz’s endorsement of Perry suggests that, at least in the short term, Perry’s indictment has had the effect of raising his popularity among conservatives

I think it shows that Cruz will attack liberal overreaches of power, rather than any great conservative endorsement for Rick Perry.

That said, supporting Perry is easy in this case. Clearly a political prosecution on behalf of a liberal who has no business holding public office.

The dims play book is finding one little mistake and making a HUGE deal of it to try to embarrass the R candidate or official. Nothing but political posturing, even though it is likely to backfire big time. In case they didn't get the memo, Perry is not running for gov again.

“Cruz is firing many accurate broadsides. But that ain't gonna win us the war! Ted,Program, Plan, Specifics...that's that we need to get the Republic back on track. SPELL IT OUT,BOY! Give me a 15-step platform.”

EXACTLY! I keep hearing from Republicans, Conservatives & others that the Conservatives have to start spelling out what their plan of action will be, in a step-by-step explanation. No more adjectives and empty sentences. TED,PLEASE SPELL IT OUT AND YOU'D BETTER START DOING THAT NOW...PEOPLE ARE WAITING TO HEAR WHAT YOUR PLAN OF ACTION WILL BE AS IT PERTAIN TO SPECIFIC ISSUES. SPELL IT OUT!
Go, TED,Go! And all other Republicans/Conservatives must start doing the same now. Leave them a note on their Facebook pages, on their web sites message centers, call them & tell them to start SPELLING IT OUT. Demo-socialists/communists/marxists know how to get the word out to the masses...the Republicans, Conservatives must start NOW and get the word out for all to hear.

The same county in Texas screwed Tom DeLay the same way, and DeLay was exhonerated years later on appeal.DeLay was just too hood at being a majority whip in the house.

Now the Dems want to do the same with Perry, because he is an campaign/election threat to the Dems in Iowa and in Texas.

Perry should file a federal civil suite claiming “ malicious prosecution,” and ask for a federal court order to stay the prosecution until after November 2016, or to vacate it entirely.

I think Perry wants to drag Austin through the mud a little before he sinks his fangs in on the dreck’s neck.

These RATS know they have it coming now, and we will delight in every scratch of blood drawn until they cry UNCLE. Which will be never.

He will make the case that the Travis Co DA’s oversight belongs under the AG in the process.

Perry does not suffer evil politicians well.. he destroys them.

Thugs to the core, but this could held Wendy and Leticia win in November. People in TX are not well informed.

Thanks, I needed that! I was beginning to think I was alone.

Too many of us have been led down this "Obama-Path." Yeah he's a horrible symptom but not quite a whole epidemic. In fact, except as a focus for our ire while they go about their socialist restructure, he is of little real use to his handlers, as indeed this sort of Affirmative Action nincompoop would be to anyone.

"Not Obama" is not a platform. We are lurching into 2014, which will be hailed as a "Great Victory." But exactly what are "we" going to do?

Cruz is very intellegent, as all attest (even Dershewitz), glib, and incisive. I also am anxious for my favorite candidate to put some meat on the bones, build a basic platform for a campaign.

I had the same desire for Palin as well as Cruz, that is, to advance from one dimensional messaging and sound bites, into more complicated themes. She never did.

Cruz will, if he is serious about running to win.

(He will have to because Rand Paul will force it.)
