Al Gore Sues Al Jazeera Over TV Deal

Former Vice President Al Gore has filed a lawsuit against the Middle Eastern media group Al Jazeera, accusing it of fraud and breach of contract in its $500 million purchase of Mr. Gore’s Current TV cable channel.

The dispute centers on Al Jazeera’s refusal to turn over “tens of millions of dollars” remaining in an escrow account and still owed to the selling shareholders of Current TV, according to a statement from David Boies, the lawyer representing Mr. Gore and a Current TV co-owner, Joel Hyatt, who are suing on behalf of all the selling shareholders.

“Al Jazeera America wants to give itself a discount on the purchase price that was agreed to nearly two years ago,” Mr. Boies said. “We are asking the court to order Al Jazeera America to stop wrongfully withholding the escrow funds that belong to Current’s former shareholders.”

Bush hired Ted Olson to be the Solicitor General of the United States during his first term. His wife (a Freeper) was on the plane that hit the pentagon on 9/11. David Boies was a un kept, disheveled looking person. His hair and suit always looked a mess, and his rhetoric was pitiful. I didn't bother keeping track of what happened to him until I read this article.

I hope Al spends years and years in court on this, regardless of the merits of the case. I hope he pays legal fees that more than negate the added profits he kept by hypocritically rushing the deal to closure right before the tax rates were changed. Normally, I applaud someone making the best decisions to minimize taxes, but not Al, who is always looking for higher taxes on me and you to fund his AGW boondoggles and other government "investments."

If he'd been president instead of GWB... Let's think positive... it would have been so bad that we probably wouldn't have gotten our current radical leftist, Obama.

I was thinking more along the line of the plaintiff giving Al and his lawyer a ride out into some middle eastern desert and them being left out there. Always a good thing to consider the worst that can happen to you before suing anyone.

"Definition of 'Escrow'

A financial instrument held by a third party on behalf of the other two parties in a transaction. The funds are held by the escrow service until it receives the appropriate written or oral instructions or until obligations have been fulfilled. Securities, funds and other assets can be held in escrow.

Once all of the conditions to the sale are satisfied, the escrow transfers the payment to the seller, and title is transferred to the buyer.

Definition of 'Escrow'

Either Gore chose his "Third Party" escrow agent from the "Sharia-R-Us" phone book (or perhaps a number scrawled in a phone booth) or else "all of the conditions to the sale are (NOT) satisfied". Perhaps Big Al should have consulted someone who finished law school before closing the deal.
