Should you have the right to fly an ISIS flag?

Sadly, it’s not a hypothetical question.

“Police in Garwood, New Jersey, ordered that a militant flag associated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) be removed from the font of a local home after hundreds of online activists expressed fear and revulsion,” the Washington Free Beacon reported on Wednesday.

True hindsight.
I think Bush let a.personal grudge effect his judgment.
One thing though, do you remember that at one point the dems were chomping on the war bit so hard Bush was criticized for taking so long to get everything in place to take care of business in Iraq.
The other thing is the fact that we went straight in to Afghanistan before the Iraq offensive to strike back for 9/11.
(should have bombed Saudi Arabia to bits but they own the Bushs.)

...should you have the Right to wear a KKK outfit when you go Shopping at Walmart in South Central?

Since the Klan is a leftwing DemonRAT organization, they would be doubtlessly be welcomed in that liberal area. KKKarter and KKKlintoon were (and are still) popular with blacks.

This is not free speech. ISIS is a declared enemy of the U.S. and our Allies.

So, you think giving ISIS free speech is constitutional? Everything they

represent is anti-American. Intolerance of Christians, beheading of children

subversion of women decimation of different religious groups and this is

warranted as free speech?

Sorry you hate America. Your opinion is dangerous because you stand for

nothing. A nihlist or a savage Muslim is what you are.

If you believe ISIS warrants free speech then the constitution stands

for nothing.

The only reason idiots can fly the NAZI flag is the ACLU won in court.

Sorry, but that doesn’t make it right.

I wonder what would have happened in the 1940’s if someone flew the NAZI flag?

Don’t quote the American Bund because they stopped their rallies once

Not much different than wanting to fly the Nazi flag during WWII.

Simply treason.

Why is treason considered an outdated concept these days???

How long would you be able to fly the Nazi flag during WWII?

Millions of brave U.S. soldiers did not fight to protect treason.

“Sorry, but that doesn’t make it right.”

The question isn’t whether it is right or wrong, but whether it is legal. I for one don’t want to live in a country where you can be told by the government (excludes HOAs, employers, etc.) what you can and can’t think, can and can’t say, can and can’t fly on your flagpole. The line of First Amendment cases out of the Warren and Burger courts is absolutely solid and necessary in a free and democratic state.

In addition to police I suspect fire departments worry about this kind of thing too.

He has the right to fly that flag.

Yup. The police chief is denying that the cops ordered the flag taken down and is saying the house occupants voluntarily took it down. Had the cops ordered it taken down, the people could have taken the cops to court and won.

What the police did and what the police say they did are not necessarily identical.

Probably not very long. Flying the Nazi flag during WWII would not be treason, it would be identification.

I would certainly knock on neighbors door and request that they take the flag down. If not taken down I would compel the owner to do so.

So, you're saying that you aren't in favor of Freedom of Speech? What is your position on the other articles of the Bill of Rights?

Why not simply support legislation making it illegal to fly flags that Jim from C-Town finds distasteful?

Maybe you don't belong here at Free Republic.

The law:

“Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

Tell me why flying the flag of ISIS within the U.S. isn’t treason?

Perhaps I don't belong here either then.

There are limits to free speech. It isn't endless. You have some responsibilities as a citizen.

When you advocate the death and/or enslavement of your fellow citizens and the destruction of our constitutional government you've crossed the line. That is exactly what the flag of the ISIS stands for. Nothing less.

The legal definition of treason: "Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

Fly it. Americans have a right to know your family wants to behead their children. I want to know who you are and where you are. This country thinks if they don’t see it or hear about it, evil doesn’t exist.

Do you think you have the right to put up a sign that says “kill the president” or “kill your neighbor”. That’s exactly what the ISIS flag stands for. Again, there are limits to free speech.

I am deeply saddened by the fact that so many, as yourself, do not understand the concept of free speech. I guess it's like language, if you don't pick it up early in life, it is difficult to acquire.

Cheers.

So for you anything goes - as long as its "speech"...

ADHERING. Cleaving to, or joining; as, adhering to the enemies of the United States.
2. The constitution of the United States, art. 3, s 3, defines treason against the United States, to consist only in levying war against them or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.
3. The fact that a citizen is cruising in an enemy’s ship, with a design to capture or destroy American ships, would be an adhering to the enemies of the United States. 4 State Tr. 328 ; Salk. 634; 2 Gilb. Ev. by Lofft, 798.
4. If war be actually levied, that is, a body of men be actually assembled for the purpose of effecting by force a treasonable enterprise, all those who perform any part, however minute, or however remote from the scene of action, and who are leagued in the general conspiracy are to be considered as traitors. 4 Cranch. 126.
