Mystery solved? A pair of artists in Berlin said they were the ones who pulled off the stunt of the summer, hoisting two big all-white flags atop the Brooklyn Bridge last month, swapping them for the usual red, white and blue.
When the flags appeared, rumors flapped: It was a prank or a grave security breach.
But the artists, Mischa Leinkauf and Matthias Wermke, say the flags with hand-stitched stars and stripes, all white had nothing to do with terrorism. In a series of phone interviews, they explained that they only wanted to celebrate the beauty of public space and the great American bridge whose German-born engineer, John Roebling, died in 1869 on July 22, the day the white flags appeared.

Well, ya could’ve TOLD someone on July 22nd!
I think they wanted to get out of the country first......................logical.................
The way our nation acts at times, you almost wonder if there isn’t a movement to adopt the white flag.
Maybe Merkel put them up to it, she is not happy with us at the moment...
Good for them. A bit of embarrassment for the “authorities.” is always a good thing. I noticed that they wisely returned to Germany before telling what they’d done.
There is a GEICO commercial. The little frog man is standing on a bridge. It looks like the Brooklyn Bridge. That flag is also white.
has anybody else noticed this?
I live in MN we don’t have getco’s here.
It would have been good to round up these turds and force them to go back up and hoist the US flag with the whole world watching. I know they are in Germany ...
Yes, it’s a Geico commercial.
The gecko is walking on the bridge and you get a glimpse of one of the flags, I noticed it was white too. It’s probably computer whited out I would think.
If you live in MN, you probably didn’t catch the joke about the white line. On the BB there is a white line on the boardwalk across the bridge. Pedestrians are supposed to stay on one side, the left, while bikes have the other side. You’ll notice in the commercial that people on the pedestrian side are tying their shoes, walking three abreast, chatting about the sights, and generally clogging up the pedestrian’s side. This is exactly what happens. That causes pedestrian traffic to spill over onto the bike lane, but the bikers are zealous in defending their territory and will clip the offending pedestrians if they can, just like Tony Stewart. The least they will do is yell. But then some New Yorkers taunt back and purposely cross the white line, like you see the frog man doing.
Funny, i thought it would’ve been somebody French. After all, who has the most experience with white flags?
