Considering the nature of the Ebola virus, and the medical infrastructure we have to combat its spread, the diagnosis of some cases on American soil shouldnt be reason to panic. We have a plethora of tools and public health practices to readily combat its spread. Yet because the virus is so dangerous, and feared, its arrival in America would likely to trigger a robust response from our public health establishment.

Good explanation of why the CDC, TV docs etc. say this is "low risk exposure" ..... per this article "while Ebola is highly infectious, it is not very contagious."
Especially pertinent discussion of topic of quarantine and why there needs to be a public discussion prior to needing to use it to control Ebola, MERS, SARS, etc.
Do you trust the CDC, Obama administration to appropriately use federal quarantine regs?

Concentration camps would be a good tool. Plus, a number of goals could be achieved with them.

Quarantine regs will be used only if they are politically expedient. That, my friend, is the D.C. Golden Rule.

Another milestone along our descending road to join the third world in all its misery.
Nothing to worry about though, our government has this well in hand.

A major factor in how FedGov responds will be who the infected individuals are. If they are bitter clingers in flyover country (unlikely), I expect their rights to be trampled mercilessly. If they are the medically vulnerable - gays, illegals, druggies (far more likely) - I expect Obama to pretend to care. Either way, I expect an ineffective response.

Ebola spreads throught the same mechanism as AIDS, contact with bodily secretions.
Given that we know, people that would try to control AIDS by quarantine would be ridiculed and be called every kind of 'phobe in the books. IMO an attempt to control ebola will meet the same fate because the carriers will likely be from Africa.

no trust....and does anybody not think that our current PTB wouldn't just LOVE to have ebola get introduced into our country just so they can push more regulation, more control, and ultimately martial law....????
when HIV/AIDS became a big deal in this country, the onus wasn't on gays or drug users...it was on monagamous hetersexual non drug users....
they didn't go after the bath houses, or the gay culture, or the drug houses...

The public health system in this country didn’t appropriately use quarantine to control AIDS. Why would we expect things to change for Ebola?

They continue, however, the statement that saliva is a bodily fluid that can spread ebola. What comes out of one’s mouth or nose when one coughs or sneezes?
This is not fear-mongering. The really should address the saliva (and I suppose mucous) issues.

I think the ‘fear factor’ with Ebola would be overwhelming. Ebola isn’t prevalent in certain ‘communities’ as AIDS tends to be, plus those who are HIV positive and can infect others aren’t generally spewing bodily fluids (Ok, comments could be made here, but you KNOW what I mean ... vomit, diarrhea, etc.). I think the general population, in their fear, would go along with quarantine .... certain people concerned about government overreach and losing personal freedom would object & probably have grounds for doing so.

I don't think it will spread far here. Our cities are not nearly as densely populated, and in our culture we don't touch each other or have as close of contact. We could raid the grocery stores, stay home for 30 days, and it would blow over.

Concentration camps for whom, exactly?
To: E. Pluribus Unum
Those who will be isolated in concentration camps can say goodbye to their possessions even when they are cured and allowed to return to their ransacked homes.
