Bring Out Your Dead

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

The Forbes article is very untrue. Even the CDC admits it is transmissible by inhalation of dried particles in the air of blood, saliva and other secretions of Ebola victims:

Those secretions are infectious for up to 23 days on inert surfaces

Basically door handles in any public building (particularly grocery stores) will be vectors for transmitting Ebola. Simple retail food distribution will be problematic given the contamination of grocery store interiors by Ebola secretions.

I completely agree with Forbes that containment in the US will require, and IMO is only possible, from rapid quarantine not merely of known victims, but of likely potential victims and that means drug addicts who are irrational by definition. When those guys are desperate enough for their next fix, they’ll disregard any danger to break into buildings looking for something to steal.

Worse, shooting them once they are infected will only contaminate the area where they are shot, with their blood. Good luck shooting the addled druggie infected with Ebola when he breaks into your house – you and your family will have to immediately run away screaming and abandon everything you own including your stocks of food and ammunition. Or contract Ebola from dried blood particles in your home's air from the dying druggie.

So only preventive quarantine of druggies will keep them from infecting most everywhere they are. Don’t hold your breath waiting for any Democratic President, let alone Obama, to nab the disproportionately black & Hispanic druggie population.
