Michael Brown remembered as a 'gentle giant' [Media Hype over St. Louis Teen?]
St Louis Post Dispatch ^ | Elisa Crouch

Posted on 08/12/2014 6:45:09 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

....Brown, 18, died Saturday after a Ferguson police officer shot him multiple times outside an apartment complex. Brown was two days from starting class at Vatterott College. Close friends had been packing up and departing for schools such as Kansas State University and Arkansas Baptist University on sports scholarships.

“Everyone else wanted to be a football player, a basketball player,” said Gerard Fuller, who had known Brown since second grade at Pine Lawn Elementary School. “He wanted to own his own business. He’d say, ‘Let’s make something out of nothing.’”....

“It hurt so bad to get that phone call,” Jenkins said...."Mike used to sell candy in middle school. I’d come up to Mike and say, ‘Mike, let me get some Skittles or something.’

If the cops won’t follow the law, why should they?

Hey doc, it ain’t convictions, see? Charges all from one single arrest means nada, nothing, garbage from a legal standpoint.

Like suspecting strep but it is a viral sore throat

Looks like all of the charges were from the same date. Do you know if he went to trial, charges were dropped, or what was the disposition of the charges? Thank you.

Here is the justification Glades: If the cops won’t follow the law, why should anybody else? If the president won’t follow the law, why should anybody else? If the DOJ won’t follow the law, why should anybody else?

Don’t you see, it’s a contract civilized persons have with one another, I will follow the law and you will follow the law. That is the only way it works, get it?

By the time I had reached 20 the only time I had ever been armed was as a Private at Fort Knox,KY.and yet all through my teen years I had never been charged with a *single* crime. Not even littering.

Same here, only I was 18 and legally carrying a gun for my Uncle Sam. Except I have, in my life time, been stopped by the police for speeding, a few times.

I can't count the times that I should have been stopped for D.U.I. but somehow avoided it. I quit drinking in 1980 though.

The same thing was said of Martin, and the media of this country tried to manufacture evidence that was quite contrary to truth.

I do not believe anything American media reports.

Only a fool would believe known serial liars, and I am no fool.

Say for the sake of argument that that scenario is 100% accurate and there was a struggle for the gun. It's evident that the struggle was unsuccessful and that Brown didn't get it So at the end of the day the victim was unarmed and fleeing. Why the need to shoot him?

Yep. It really doesn't matter if Brown had a criminal record. Brown was shot while unarmed and fleeing.

You must have grown up in a town where the cops didn’t prey on teens

I grew up in a suburb, and at a time, where a "crime wave" was kids setting off cherry bombs.I also grew up in a household in which you knew that if you ran into trouble with the Principal or the police your problems were only *beginning* when the folks found out.

As a result, cherry bombs were as far as I went while in my teens.

Yes it does.It points to attitude. It suggests that he's predisposed to violence,as evidenced by the charges listed in a previous post.Even if the cop involved didn't know this guy personally he can read that attitude in the guy's body language, tone of voice, etc.

It makes a huge difference. It would put any reasonable cop on high alert when dealing with such a punk. And high alert = fear. And when a cop is fearful that's when bad things can happen. The last thing a logical, law abiding person wants to do is cause a cop to be fearful.

Obey the cop's commands.Keep your voice down and your language clean and non-threatening.Always keep both your hands in plain sight. No sudden moves. And then, when it's over, see if there's any reason to sue the police department for millions if you feel you've been mistreated.

Because every kid his age, from that environment does that. I am a sports team photographer. I deal with schools in urban and suburban areas. I deal with kids who are clearly college bound, and kids who are not.

You would be surprised how many lilly-white kids from the burbs pose like that. It is ingrained in the culture.

I would not put my credence in the assumption that “good kids” don’t pose that way. They do.

I don’t know this particular kid. I have no idea of his history. But don’t judge the book by this cover.

Do you have any idea what those codes are? Not questioning your post, but it would be interesting to see what he was charged with and the disposition of the cases.

THIS...much more than photos of him flashing stupid gang signs, has much more credence to his character.

The whole shot while “running away” thing is bad. Once the threat is abated, there is no justification in shooting. Its not like you don’t know who he is, and where you can find him.

Shooting ANYONE in the back is just not justified.

Everything in your post (#55) makes sense. And if Brown was shot in the car while struggling with the cop, it most probably would have been a righteous shoot.

There are reports that the cop’s gun discharged during the struggle in the car. If true, that’s an important thing to consider.

But the cop was not shot. No one was shot in the car. Brown was shot while unarmed, and running away. I just can’t get past that. And I don’t see how anyone can.
