A talented actor who appeared to be chased by demons whatever their cause. Sad that he existed in such a dark place out of reach of those that loved him.

I even liked him in “Popeye”.

I can’t imagine anyone could have done a better job then he did as Popeye.

I loved Mork as a character...the episode where all of his emotions emerged at the same time as different personnas was amazing.

One wonders if on anti-depressants, a lot of suicide warnings on those now.

So sad. He did a lot of USO shows.

He was also life long friends with Christopher Reeve. They were accepted to Julliard together (out something like 150 applications for 2 spots, they were two students chosen).

When Reeve was lying in his hospital room paralyzed, Williams reportedly came into his room wearing a clown nose and refused to let Reeve pity himself.

Williams was up front about his alcoholism, and made many attempts to remain sober.

May God have mercy upon him.

Whoa! Sometimes when you do too many bad things in your life, you can’t stand it anymore. Maybe the drugs were a way for him to get away from his regrets. And then the drugs turned on him.

Stay away from the demons that are in the drugs.

I may be wrong on this, but didn’t he take Christopher Reeves’ kids after Reeve and his wife had both died?

I also liked him best in that movie. I found him more interesting as a serious actor than comedian.

Re: Awakenings

Pretty good film costarring Robert De Niro, in a very unusual role for him.

“In 1969, Dr. Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams) is a dedicated and caring physician at a local hospital in the New York City borough of The Bronx. After working extensively with the catatonic patients who survived the 1917–1928 epidemic of encephalitis lethargica, Sayer discovers certain stimuli will reach beyond the patients’ respective catatonic states; actions such as catching a ball thrown at them, hearing familiar music, and experiencing human touch all have unique effects on particular patients and offer a glimpse into their worlds. Leonard Lowe (Robert De Niro) proves elusive in this regard, but Sayer soon discovers that Leonard is able to communicate with him by using a Ouija board.

After attending a lecture at a conference on the subject of the L-Dopa drug and its success with patients suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, Sayer believes the drug may offer a breakthrough for his own group of patients. A trial run with Leonard Lowe yields astounding results as Leonard completely “awakens” from his catatonic state; this success inspires Sayer to ask for funding from donors so that all the catatonic patients can receive the L-Dopa medication and experience “awakenings” back to reality.”

Depression is not a drug induced illness. Many depressives turn to alcohol or drugs to try to stop the pain from depression. If you’ve never felt the emptiness & hopelessness of depression, consider yourself very fortunate.
