With fewest canceled flights, Delta wins best airline title
CNN ^ | 8/8/14

Delta is the best airline in the U.S., that is, if you are looking for fewer canceled flights or mishandled bags and on-time arrivals. "Of course, we don't have a measurement for the widths of flight attendants' smiles or other intangibles, but if you look at the numbers, Delta comes out on top this year," said George Hobica, founder and president of Airfarewatchdog, which puts together the annual list.

I am surprised....I have not heard good things about the service at Delta.

But I guess they make the trains, er, planes run on time.

Ya know, I’ve heard nothing but terrible about Delta, but my wife flies back East a lot and often takes Delta. Never a problem.

It depends greatly on the airport and time of the flight. Morning flights get canceled/delayed far less than evening flights. Likewise certain airports are notorious for delays.

I fly Delta 100 times a year, because of the routes, but they are in a race to the bottom and continue to remove perks and benefits. Not impressed.

IIRC, Delta had an all-Boeing fleet (including MDs which up the average age of the fleet) prior to the merger with Northwest Airlines. Now, the fleet includes Airbus.

I quit flying Delta 25 years ago, after spending the entire night in the Atlanta airport waiting in line to be re-ticketed. Our plane (Delta) had been late getting to Atlanta, and we all missed our connecting flights. Delta’s response - oh well.

Maybe they’ve gotten getter by now.

It is actually difficult to avoid Delta, if flying through Atlanta, but I made a concerted effort and have never flown them again.

I'm now a Delta passenger whenever possible and I'll tell you why.

My wife recently died. We had our son scheduled to fly home on Aug 8 on United and had a return flight for Aug 16 on Delta. It became obvious that we couldn't wait until Aig to bring him in so I had his flight changed to come in July 28 but didn't change the return flight because we just didn't know at that time what was going to happen.

United charged me an additional $650.00 to fly in early...charging over $1,300.00 for a one way Economy flight from Boise ID to Norfolk VA. I paid it, didn't argue...we just wanted him here before his mother passed away.

When it came time to send him home and I called Delta to change his flight, not only did Delta not charge me any more...they gave me a $42.00 refund!

Delta moved mountains to get the family of one of our troops from Maine to CA...I’ll always remember and appreciate what they did for that family.

Have flown mostly on business with Delta almost exclusively for 30+ years. Unlike AA, United, etc., the only pain I’ve head with them was an occasional dumbass authoritarian gate person mostly right after they absorbed NW. They recognize and respect loyalty.

Won a vacation to St. Thomas back in 1993 and the travel agency booked myself and my new girlfriend on Delta. They lost our luggage - in both directions. Made for one snippy girlfriend because they only had one flight a day in/out of St. Thomas. Haven’t used Delta since.

I had an episode with Delta in 2003 at JFK, and emerged from that “flight-to-hell” episode to vow never to fly them again. They really left me hanging, gave one-star support, and the return leg of the flight barely got much better. So for eleven years, I kept that promise.

This past May...I had to fly to a funeral in a hurry, and this was the only airline with open seats....so I booked. I came along shocked at the attitude change among the employees, and the better service. Maybe an airline can recover and do things better.

I should note....I have routinely flown Icelandic Air, and found them to be one of the better airlines in terms of service, attitude and on-time schedules.

I fly about 100 segments annually. All the legacy airlines are just about the same. United,Delta,American, and U.S. Airways. No difference at all. You pick your airlines that has the best routes and one ways that fit your needs and you just go with it.
Southwest does a nice job and they make the legacy airlines do a better job at a lower price. I also like Frontier Airlines.

Delta nickles and dimes its customers to death, and Heaven forbid if you have to make an itinerary change-—it’ll cost at least $200 extra, no exceptions.
